  • A8 4.2 v8 quattro no drive

As above, I bought an a8 recently and it won't move no matter what gear its in (auto) and if I rev it in gear it goes into limp mode. Codes read along the lines of output speed wrong.. Is it ever a simple fix with these (as in an oil and filter change) or is it likely to be terminal? I only bought it for the engine anyway but with the mention of this impending snow I thought it would be nice to go out for a play lol
Finally, what do these things break like? Am I likely to be stuck with lots of parts? It has black leather, bose etc
    Thanks in advance chaps

My experience of breaking an a8 was not good but s2bo sounded like he did ok.I ended up getting pissed off with it and weighed 85% of it in

If its got no drive at all its sounds terminal to me,generally they at least go forwards/backwards a bit.Whats the actual code it is coming out with?and have you been into the transmission section on vagcom?sometimes you will get a couple of other bits of info that arent in a general scan

I'm no expert but could it be a similar issue to a manual car when the clutch sticks to the flywheel and you cannot get gears? In that case you need to let the engine get hot to free the clutch. Just a thought.

could it be as simple as a broken CV or axle? these cars will not move if they have this happen.

Does it have diff lock? Will it move with diff locked? I'm not clued up on a8s, still tempted by an s8 in ronin green I was offered last year but wasn't sure what to pay

I should definitely be checking for Broken cv, actually since you mentioned it I had it jacked up and in park without the handbrake on and I could spin the rear wheel no problem... I'll check tomorrow :-) no diff lock unfortunately.

The gear selected signal comes from the F125 switch on the side of the gearbox.t

                    Do you still have this?

I rebuilt the gearbox in one of these a while ago due to the same problem.
