  • 1.8t and 01e what flywheel and clutch?

    hello
i was planning on upgrading to an 01e from an coupe quattro 01a onto a 1.8t thats going into my b2, i appreciate this is a s2 forum but have more luck finding knowledgeable people here so worth a shot.

i have read that some people have clutch engaging/disengaging problems and seems to be down to the stack height.

so this is where im lost people are using 240mm larger flywheels, could i not just stick with the 228 clutch and flywheel and upgrade the clutch and pressure plate to hold more power there seem to be lots of options for s3's and only need to told 450 ish.

the other one is i have seen a dqt gearbox but it has the wrong driveshaft cups any idea where i can get 108mm ones and swap them over or not bother and get the right box to start with

    cheers

I have a B2 coupe with a 20v 2.3lt 7A engine mounted to the B2 coupe front wheel drive gear box, the std. 7A flywheel was 240mm but dose not fit, so, I fitted the timming pin in the B2 coupe original flywheel and had to fit the pilot bearing in the end of the 7A crankshaft (yes the hole for the pilot bearing is in the 7A engine), my B2 228mm clutch is ok and never slips, I could have used a 240mm flywheel from a UR quattro and that has the timming pin already fitted but don't have a spare one.

any longitudinal 1.8t clutch will work with that combo. so b5 a4, b6 a4. take the whole setup, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. lots of good off the shelf options

        7A engine + 1.8T flywheel = can't fit because of 2 extra crank bolts.

i havent got a 7a engine, its the 1.8t 20v thanks for the info about taking the whole setup as i had originally thought.

so that way it will engage and disengage as it should so does anyone know why some people have issues, is it purely they upgraded to the 240mm setup and it was too thick basically?

          cheers

Longitudal 1.8T dualmass flywheel or better 4cyl Audi 80 singlemass flywheel. The strongest 228 clutch should be from 1.9TDi 1Z engine, i suspect. As an upgrade you can redrill audi 80 singlemass flywheel to accomodate 240mm clutch.

i ran B5 A4 CM 725 twin disc in the drag car. uses stock starter even.

as Dave said, any longitudinal 1.8T clutch setup is what you want.

108mm axle cups are the stock size in 01E trans from B5 S4.

Cheers for that I'll be changing the cups to match my current shafts which are 100mm ones I'll be getting the flanges from the rear diff of a b5 a4 quattro, thanks very much and I have read a bit about your car speeding g60 very nicely done indeed
