  • Don't you just love how's jobs snowball.

Ever since I bought my B5 RS4 I have had a grumbling off side rear bearing. I finally decided to tackle the job last week.
This led to the caliper needing replacement as the original was seized from someone tearing the boot. As I took the rear hub off the lower bush fell apart. It was the only bush on the rear end I didn't touch when I poly bushed the rear end previously.
So after doing both sides I took the car out. I then found the grumbling had gone and was replaced with a quieter drone when steering left even slightly.
Today I have replaced the off side front bearing and finally the car is smooth and quiet.
However I'll be needing a pair of front tyres in the next 2000 miles!!
Oh and I need to replace the gear and diff oils.. You've got to love these old cars

It doesn't rain but pours with stuff like that. At least with those done you shouldn't need to do more on that front for quite a while

I hope so mate. At some point I need to do the EGT sensors too as one keeps faulting despite the new circuit boards. However at £400 there are greater priorities.

I've got a weird one on my B5 RS4 at the mo. I've recently had the whole back end rebuilt with new bushes and refitted the B7 brakes that were up front when I bought the car. It now handles and stops nicely but there's a clicking from the front driver's side which only happens when on the power and turning slightly right.

I took O/S/F wheel off the RS2 to change a flexi brake hose.

Works completed to date as a result of "just swapping out a flexi":
          • Complete remanufacture of front callipers
          • Conversion to Boxster S rear callipers
          • New Brake pads
          • New hand brake shoes
          • Complete replacement of all flexible hoses with custom teflon braided hoses and stainless fittings
          • Powder coating of 4x struts, wishbones and other suspension parts
          • Replacement of track rod ends
          • New Koni adjustable dampers and H&R springs.
          • Wheel refurbishment

          Whoops!

Newsh, I would guess at outer CV joint. Although I'd expect that to be on hard lick without and real power applied.
That reminds me that was another task I completed replacing the outer CV boot. Someone has previously fitted a cheap stretchy boot looking thing!!!

I'm thinking outer CV joint too, just a bit strange it only does it when turning slightly.
Will do it with a bit of throttle on a big roundabout but not on a right turn except as you straighten up.

I didn't need to do subframe bushes on mine as they are spot on. My mate did his 2 years ago as the subframe/arb mounts were sheared due to corrosion and the uprated arb but the bushes were spot on..

I'm currently getting all the parts only reason I'm asking is these brake pipes that run over the frame. Guessing condition just reuse them or make new pipes. The rest is straight forward. Just all mounts up

In my experience you are better off keeping the kuniper coated originals if they aren't corroded.

Well in my quest to stop this dreaded drone I've been suffering I put the car on the 2 poster today. The NSR bearing is droning, not a problem as I planned to change it when I do the bottom hub bush anyway so would of changed the bearing as a precautionary measure.
I had a spare couple of hours so I've changed the gearbox/diff oil and rear diff oils. I changed the engine oil and filter for good measure too. The gear change is notably smoother...
