  • Tow vehicles ?

I am having very mixed thaughts about tow vehicles from flatbed recovery trucks to a crap car with hired trailer as i will be buying and breaking cars from march 2017.

I wondered what you guys currently use and to what extent you use them.

Come march i will have a URS4/6 Avant, 4x4 Sierra Sapphire, VR6 Golf, and a tow vehicle.............

    i am thinking the tow vehicle will either be a mk2 2.8 shogun, 1.9/2.0TDi Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra ( or VR6......... yes, VR6 only if it is a 12v one!)

    or something else??????

    2.8 Quattro B5 Avant?

£1000 float money chump change tow vehicle really,

Purely to collect cars i want to restore/break for spares/drop off for paint etc

    show me yours

I have search a long time for a car who can tow my trailer with car (2tons) legally with the stupid French laws (too long to explain)& not too many gas/diesel consumption for daily car

    Nissan Xtrail VDI 2003 2.2

There are other solutions Audi A4 Quattro TDI 130 (1800 kgs towing capacity), VW Passat TDI 130 4 Motion (1700 kgs), Volvo V70 2.5 TDI (Audi engine & 1800 kgs) of course for low budget if you have more money there are many other cars, oh another for about 4/5000 euros here but sadly a non reliable car (TDi 140) could be great is the PAssat 5 4motion (2000 kgs like my xtrail)

Probably doesn't help you, but yesterday I was helping someone load up a D2 S8 onto an extra-wide trailer (so the S8 would fit OK).
It was being towed about 200 miles across country, by...
      Another D2 S8 of course.

I've been running Isuzu Troopers for years as a second hack vehicle. Ran a 3.1 for around 7 years, then a 3.0. The 3.0 had a reputation for blowing engines (leaking injectors etc), but thay are fine so long as all the recall work has been done, which you can verify via Isuzu UK. Drives just like a car and the engine is rated at 160+ hp, so they will tow anything all day long. Because of the bad reputation, they make around half or less what an equivalent Discovery or similar would make. Tow rating is 3500 Kgms, fwir. Had this one for around 5 years with no serious faults other than the rail pressure sensor. Bought it at 86,000 for 1650 ukp with barely a mark on it. Engine is a 4 cyl common rail diesel with balancer shafts and ecu. A really grunty workhorse...

Can i be a bit biased here? This is my tow cehicle

Ive had loads of cars on it and ill be honest with you i love it to bits. It doesnt struggle with any properly low car, is the 5pot tdi and now remapped it flies with good mileage, and the newly retrofitted cruise control is great

              Love that truck!
As for a tow car I'd have to say Discovery as that's all I've used (just sold it half hour ago
Depends how often and what state cars you are moving
If they're runners and you re doing local moves then buy trade plates , I've just renewed mine @£165 for 12 months
Any longer journeys I pay a friend with a truck to move them-while he's driving I can be working on/stripping cars and making more money than his transport bill is.
He picked that black s4 avant from you

Sadly not, though I was there in my S8 as well - could have had all 3 together. Just too busy getting it loaded up to think of that.

Funny thing is the one on the trailer was a Final Edition (Avus Silver with bright red leather) and has a VIN only about 30 higher than mine which is a "normal" facelift.

I use my daily A8 2.8Q for towing. Works fine for me.

Is the t4 an original Brian James conversion or a trailer tacked onto chassis cab?

HP Sauce and V6Quattro if you could look on my ebay of recently viewed and cars bidded on, you will see 7 A8`s!! how weird great minds think alike

Dubmanted, that is pure 100% purpose built revenue machine, looks amazing and i bet it is Uber practical.......... sadly at £4000+ im guessing, just now for me it wouldnt suit my needs........ but THE best setup i have seen in years fella!!

I did have an A3 Turbo collected by a guy in an LT35 converted to air brakes, big trailer and train horns in Essex, that was awesome to see and hear. I did laugh out loud but was amazed by the work and usability of the whole thing.

Tridac, I remember working on troopers/montoreys years ago and hated them, Handling by lotus etc, as much as the mk2 Shogun i do fancy a Big Horn....... i guess they are like chunky birds.......... you dont want to take them to meet your mates but you know you would bang them silly lol

I think for now the solution will be a cheap shonkey tow vehicle, hired trailer and RAC membership lol!

you should see my ebay bids and watch list, ****en hillarious it really is

                        Keep em coming guys!

Just a thought, can you buy a vehicle with an engine you want to re-purpose later?

PRY2SNO im sorry but im lost with the question you asked?

can i buy a vehicle i will break later?

                            almost ofcourse!

Every vehicle i have bought since 2001 i have either bought with the intention to sell later as a whole or break into spares thus not losing out on the original purchase figure, not all have suceeded, but every one was delt with in the same mindset

Sleeper Avant: Tridac, I remember working on troopers/montoreys years ago and hated them...

So what's wrong about working on them ?. A bit heavier perhaps, but no different from any other vehicle ime. The old 3.1 was sold at 360,000 and engine still burning no oil, though I did fit reconditioned injectors. The 3.0 looks similar after 4 years, tough as nails and a fraction of the cost of a disco that's been to the moon and back...
