  • 10v CQ to V8 Turbo CQ Project

Well i've not really posted too much on here for the last couple of years, although i've been lurking in the background almost daily.
I thought it was about time to post my project here now i've made some solid progress.

So,basically i bought the car a couple of years ago unseen with the view to breaking her,it belonged to a friend of a friend and was "definately a 20v"...for 250 quid who was i to argue.
Long story short me and a mate headed up to Darlington with a car trailer only to find it was infact a 10v.******,after all the effort i was'nt about to leave empty handed so took it anyway.
It sat on the drive for a few months collecting dust and bird sh*te until the bug bit me,so a project was born.
The original idea was just to fit a v8,keep it n/a and stock looking and enjoy burbling round in it,but there's not enough fun in that is there?
On a side note i managed to loose quite a few pics unfortunately so there may be a few holes in this ever thickening plot

    Tools out,grinder out,everything out.....

For G reg car it's actually one of the best shells i've come across, this was the only real corrosion i came across and had to cut out and replace, but that was easily sorted

So,a good, solid, rust free shell...a good place to start

So,a bit of a time lapse...
Got her stripped bare (ooh eer)
Took all the panels off, glass out,all the wiring out and took the shell up to the workshop.
I'm in a fortunate position of having a double garage with a service pit and a decent size workshop,to be honest i wouldn't attempt such a project without it.
Now i've always had a thing for white cars ever since i owned a short wheelbase 300zx twin turbo...quite a beast it was,so white cars always bring fond (if a little sideways) memories for me,so white it is/was...

To make a little more room for the engine etc i decided to move rad to the boot, along with an electric pas pump and the battery.
To try and get some airflow to it the rear quarter glasses were changed for lexan, and a couple of ducts added.
The rad is an ally one from an scooby, mated with twin fans, hopefully it will cut the mustard,if not,a friend of mine has a huge custom rad from a tvr he said he'd part with so we will see.
I also had a bolt in cage i aqquired a while ago so chucked that in for now, although i might get something better in there in due course.
The main thing was to add a brace between the rear turrents to try stiffen it up a tad,in standard form the car handled like an old sofa on wheels
Oh yes,and the two prongs stuck out of the boot are the pins for the aerocatches in the tailgate

          Great.
Second picture looks like car thieves have stripped it and dumped it in the woods
Used to happen around our way, mostly cosworths

Thanks all for the kind words

So at this point all the suspension, brakes and drive train are out and on the workshop floor.
Got it all stripped down, bushes out and started getting ready to give stuff a lick of paint.
It goes without saying it's had a full overhaul consisting of:
                  -Aluminium subrame bushes
                  -Poly wishbone bushes
                  -Poly diff mount
                  -New gearbox and diff mounts
                  -Springs & gas shocks
                  -Top mounts
                  -Rear tie rods
                  -Track rod ends
                  -Brake lines&handbrake cables
For the moment it's getting S2 brakes so it will be useable,i'll be upgrading to something larger in due course,i'm focusing my efforts/funds on getting the thing running first, that,as we all know is the biggest motivation of all.

Tbh,i never knew that 10v cq's didn't have a RARB...that had to be rectified immediately so i knocked up a franken-rarb setup using a v6 farb, some universal brackets and bushes, adjustable droplinks and some plate steel i had knocking about,i also had to weld some pickups on the rear shock tubes.

                  And fitted...

Next updates are the fun stuff

Give me a shout if you need any help with getting the lump wired up.

Car is looking good buddy, my Leon is white and I'll be honest I wouldn't have another white car........ PITA to keep clean!

Nice work on the rear anti roll bar set up, good little bit of thinking on that. I'll have to come and see it. You've got a lot of work done since summer or from when we last spoke. Keep at it mate.
Just some finishing touches to do now

Cheers mategood to see you're still knocking about here, your welcome to call over anytime.
Hopefully once it's finished keeping it clean should be the only thing left to do,so i guess it's a small price to pay.
Yeah,i've had a real good push with it over the last few months, hoping to be ready to fire her up at the end of feb,we will see however

Thought i'd post a bit more of this project now i've got some free time...
The last update i made i was half way through doing the suspension, long story short, everything was painted re-bushed,put back together and fitted to the car,at that point i rolled her out to have a clean up in the garage before proceeding to the next stage.

                              [/URL]

As christmas was approaching (aswell as my birthday) i thought i'd treat myself...

Some of you may well recognise the engine which previously belonged to Kieron,as it says in the thread title i will be following on his work boosting it,i also owe him a big thanks for doing me a good deal and dropping it off at mine-cheers mate

First things first,i wanted to do a dry fit so to speak to make sure everything fits and get some idea of what i'd be up against so i mated it to the old 01A box for the moment,i'll be going 01E when i get onto the final assembly of everything....

I've got a snail in my engine bay

I've been busy getting the turbo pipework made up recently and have just recieved the intercooler, was up there last night and made up the new crossmember and mocked up the front end so i can see what space is like-and it's tight
I'll have some more pics/updates after the weekend
