    Yawn.
I'd be more impressed if they had worked on the layout and bringing the engine back in the chassis or simply bothered to make their cars exciting to drive

I'd say that's blasphemy. It's not quattro anymore.

      Best comment under this:

So it saves 0.3 litres over 62 miles. That's 3 litres for 620 miles, 30 litres for 6,200 miles and 60 litres for 12,400 miles, about the average mileage a car covers in a year. OK - a tankful saved every year. Not a massive amount is it?
Shame. So we either stay with pre-2016 Audi's, or get the expensive ones, which have massive torque.

Thats what happens when you let the marketing dept and accountants design quattro.

I thought Audi claimed they "proved" some years ago that 4 driven wheels was actually more efficient than 2 driven and two trailing wheels?

Unfortunately not. My auntie and uncles B8.5 A4 2.0 TDI quattro is about 5mpg worse than the same spec B8.5 A4 2.0 TDI without quattro

In my previous workplave we had 2 identical skodas, 1.2 47kW MY2007. Only difference was how they were driven and individual milage on the cars. 1st one was assigned to a one guy who nurished it for the first 10000km, no high rpms, fluids properly warm etc. 2nd one was mine, allready tried doing burnout after 1km from the dealers lot, never cared (because company car), so trashed it around from the beginning. After the both had passed at least 20000km, the car no1 was the fastest (calibrated butt dyno result) and most economical so it used around 2l of fuel less then car no2. Was kinda difficult to explain the accountant why car no2 used allways more fuel than car no1, even when the guy from car no1 used it for a while.

Not really proper experiment but thats all i have - even identical cars can have wildly different results, i would not only blame the quattro for losing 5mpg in your example.

Quattro's should always eat a bit more than FWD's, simply because they weigh a bit more and have more things to spin. More work to do and more physical resistance. Quite logical.
