  • Project OTG (URS6 Saloon)

So after deciding to keep the s6 I have took it off the road ready for abit of tlc. So first things first before any engine mods let's get this barge boat handling better as the 20 year old suspension has seen better days. Going to go for the coilover design and just use bits and bobs and build my own kit.

    I see you're keeping it.

I thought I wanted coil overs on my UrS6, but couldn't afford KW3, so decided on Bilstein sports shock with H&R 29800 springs (which I think are really for an Audi 200). and they lower the car enough from an aesthetic point of view, but ironically if it lowered the car any more it would 'catch' on speed pillows / speed ramps and in multi storey car parks. The shocks match the springs and damp the car as you'd want.

Also installed Albert's farb bracket which is a great piece of kit for a UrS6 and helps with increasing the castor and the turn in.

So I find that the car handles and rides perfectly from me to daily in comfort on city streets and country roads with no issues. All bushes are standard rubber oem, and tyres are 255/35/18 on 8 x 18 rims.

Car is never tracked. Don't want to shorten the life of the car or the life of various components.

Just mentioning all of this incase it helps you decide on what you want. Interested to see how you get on regardless of which option you go for.

    Best wishes.

Is Albert's farb kit easy to fit? I would imagine that with an Apikol arb would reallly improve things.
I currently have Bilstein dhocks and Eibach springs. The springs are a little soft I'd say, but certainly provide a decent ride.

Just checkin'?, is the ground solid enough with gravel and jack stands to be reefing on the car??

No harder than re-fitting the farb when it is all oem.

I find it a tiring job myself even when mechanically minded, but the end result is well worth doing nonetheless.

Yes a rear Apikol arb would be better again, but funds are the issue for me otherwise I'd fit one.

Eibach may be softer, but depending on what you want from the car it may not be worth changing them, especially if you have to pay someone else to do it.

oem is nice but just too high for me.

Don't want to be jumping the gun, but I thought the exact same. Axel stands on gravel.

                  Good luck with the refurb.

Yeah be afraid - I had a near miss years ago with axle stands on gravel - but I at least had a spare tyre under the lifted corner just in case !

Thanks all for the concernes about the axel stands. I cleared the area where the axel stands sit, down to the hardcore Base so they are flat and safe the filled stones back around them.

As for shocks I see everyone prefers the bilsten shocks so thats what I will go for but will just make my own spring and coilover setup.

I not after tracking the car just after improving the looks and road handling as I use it as a family car and upsetting the local chavs in there Sts and vxrs.

So a little update. I have only managed to have time to strip one corner so far didn't have any major issues stripping just issues with removing the abs sensor so the cable got the chop in the end.

As you can see in the picture it looks like it is a part from the titanic so I passed it on to sand blast for me so I can change wheel bearing paint and put back on.

Just put a lite dust of primer on to shop it from rusting.

Also had these little this made I pinched the idea from another site it replaces the original audi cap that holds the shock in and allows you to use coilover springs and have height adjustment. It leaves the original spring carrier in place incase I ever feel the need to go back to normal springs.

Any comments welcome or advice as it's only trial and error for me at the min.

Was it the 2 C clips on the inner wing you had trouble with when taking off the abs cables? ive gotten into the habit of running a slitting disc through them so you can take the cable out and then on refit you just bend them back over so it keeps the cable secured

ive seen you round these parts once or twice over the years

Hello spink we have had a couple of chats over the years and no it was removing the sensor itself from the hub. It just doesn't want to move so I believe it's going to have to be a replacement job once it's out and all the new sensors I have seen come with new plugs to wire up.
