  • Poor internal ventilation

The RS2 when compared to the exS2 has poorer airflow, in particular via central three vents. The airflow is best in the closest one then fades across the three.
New filter and a hand up the back to secure housing have failed to improve.
Any ideas from those who have ventured behind the central dash area??

?? related to stiff temp selector dial ??

I removed my pollen filter and sealed the plastic cover properly. I find it as quiet ( but much more flow) without ( S2 coupe), however I understand it can be noisy to do this in the avant.

There's no real reason for the less flow of air, just I suppose where the air comes through to the three vents, that area is quite large so you feel a drop off in flow. As it happens...... I can show you the back of a dash and the airflow through it!!

          OT:
One a bit annoying thing is that cars equipped with climate control the centre wents never give warm! Not especially nice as we may have -30C winters here.

Poor air flow can be caused by badly fitting pipes. there is a vertical tube which goes over the outlet from the blower motor etc. When I was lying under the dashboard of Peter (AvantS2)'s car I saw his pipes were not a good fit. His dash was removed for a dealer fit AC unit and it was not refitted as well as it could have been!

Stick your head under the dash with the drivers knee pad removed and look. It may be you have an air leak underneath the dash which is no use whatsoever!.

Sorry forgot to say, the dash controls shouldn't be stiff, have a look and see if the cables need to have their route changed or maybe lubricated.

My heater control went stiff after I'd been in behind the radio. I took it back out and jiggled with the wires, replaced it and everything was fine.
It sounds to me as though something is catching behind the controls.

It does sound like something isn't fitted properly behind the dash. The air flow should be identical on the RS2 and S2, if they have the same equipment - climate control, etc. If the control knob is hard to move, you'll need to check out the wires that run to the air flaps behind the dash. You can get to one of them more easily if you remove the centre console. Often the outer cable comes out of it's fitting. This makes the control knob stiff and prevents the air flap from opening/closing properly. It's not a fun job

                      thread resurrection time

Any BTDT on the ventilation control (left knob of the 3 in the centre console) as mine feels stiff at the top for window clearing and then right at the other end for the face vents. I've pulled the radio and had a feel about and can feel the wire moving back and forth but feels like there should be less resistance than there is.

back in there today with some felt to stop the dash squeaking and encountered this again. does anyone have a picture of the rear of the heater controls so i can understand what is going on behind? i can feel an arm and a wire but would love to solve the dial resistance as it is far too stiff

Mines the same, I have to take the knob off and use pliars if I want to alter the air flow, so it stays on the screen setting!!

I assume it's the control cables that want oiling but they look like a pig to get to

I've got a set of S2 heater controls here, if you want I can take a vid of them working.
