  • looking for theory or fact as to why my wheels dont catch inner balljoint

    guys

i have fitted s2 arms and balljoints, subframe and run currentyl 16v shocks drilled out to m14.

i have s4 avus 17" wheels which iirc are 47et.

why do they bolt straight on and not catch the inner steering joint with 235 45 17 tyres. its mm off but it seems everyone runs about A 10mm spacer and my s2 ran et 35 again 8" rim

what have i done wrong? it all bolts up right. maybe a fraction of negative camber?

    any ideas appreciated.

Check the wording of your post, as it appears confusing to me ?

I take it the steering arm is at the same angle on the uprights as it would be on the S2 uprights?
And you can steer from side to side full lock without binding anything.

I suppose by drilling out the arms, you might have given yourself a better angle / camber than stock.

I could be talking complete rubbish too

sorry if wording is turd. its what comes from a confused head. ill try to simplify

basically i have s2 setup up front with 16v shocks which have to be drilled out to fit the s2 hubs. so basically s2 coupe car on a saloon b3. i have a set of b4 avus wheels like the s2 but the slightly newer design in 17". i think the offset is 47et. tyres are 235's

everybody ive seen has to run a spacer but min bolt up and clear the steering joint and shocker. the wheel spins freely. camber looks a little negative (if thats right). wheel out more at top than bottom. ball joint is positioned exacly as on s2. i have just bolted the arm straight on.

what have i done wrong. i presume something is wrong? if i go narrower on tyre say 215 im sure i can get some positive camber in by messing with the shocker bolt positions. maybe running the drill through again.

but why does the wheel fit and not need a spacer? im worried something is not right

        does that make sense?

Yeah you have some range of adjustment between the hub and strut, sounds like you are adjusted right out at the top, meaning you have positive camber. You'll probably find you can't get it aligned properly without a spacer and adjusting it back to where it should be

            sounds likely.

why would this be? due to my drilling or just the shape. better check the bolts too.. hows it adjusted? the bolts are normal bolts on our cars?

i expect you may be right though. i may be able to get the wheel under the arch slightly better too if its more in at the top. ive got about 5mm at the moment maybe a fraction more at the top to spare on this wide tyre.

do they do camber bolts for our cars? would make life easier. stock bottom bolt camber top bolt?

Are the wheels genuine or reps with a 35mm offset?

S6 avus wheels are 17x8 et 35, much rarer than the S4 wheels which are et 45ish.

I got S6 wheels as they are bolt on without spacers (depending on tyres)

ok think im getting somewhere, thanks guys

ordered some camber bolts, PFA100-14. gonna go with some 215 tyres i think. its on 235's and they balloon over the edge of the rim about 1.5cm at the moment

should do the trick, i hope.
