  • PIstonheads sale scam

Am I becoming head scam spotter... or are they all just heading for me cos I look gullible??

I'm posting this as a warning to the less cynical...

I was looking at a nice car in Pistonheads ...good pics, nice price, low mileage.

Then I got an email reply from the seller which sent alarm bells ringing..

1- They claimed to be in the forces an travelling a lot..so the car would be "delivered" to me at their cost "on approval"
2- They dropped their price by £2k ...making it so cheap it was an amazing bargain (mmmm)
3- They wanted me to pay money into a "third party" Amazon Money account..to be held until I was satisfied with the car.

Oh...and it was all a rush, cos they needed to sell immediately... was being posted abroad wight he military.

    Anyone else seen this one?

Yeah nothing new, had it on mobile.de as well when looking for a 90 quattro type 85. Was very surprised they even try it with such a specific car, with an A4 or the likes I would be less surprised.

Sounds legit to me. In fact I'll buy it if you're not interested? I'm just waiting for money to be transferred from my long lost relation in Nigeria...should be here any minute

we've seen these scam emails all the time at work like this and unusual places to buy cars, I heard one employee did go for it and tried to meet the guy in Holland but it turned out to be a scam. Good job he was already over there for work and didn't waste any money or much time with it.

I had something similar on eBay a few weeks ago. Ended up reporting to the domain registrar (Google) , eBay and Barclays (who held the account used for the transaction)
