  • Bosch sander broken

Hi... my Bosch green PDA 180- electric sander has stopped working... It was OK one minute and then silent the next.

Opened it up and all the cables look intact, and connections OK... I wondered if its the brushes on the electric motor... but before I waste too much time wanted to check if anyone has repaired on of these.. I know you can get spare parts, but I'm not even sure if thats what the fault is!!

    sander

common for cable break internally from machine end also brushes would cause same problem if you take brushes out on the ends that touch the armature they should look
silver and slightly glossy , if black and pitted needs new brushes. turn unit on and try shaking the lead first to see if problem is in the lead. you can match brushes on ebay etc.

As others have said, get a multi meter and check for obvious continuity problems. A bad or broken connection sounds more likely if it's just gone dead.
If it's burnt out or other major problems it'd tell you in the form of smoke/and or noises.
Check the cleanliness of the brushes and clean if needed.

, it would have let you know will smell and sound if it was a major problem, most likely a damaged wire or perhaps a problem with the switch.

Stupid question I know but you have checked the fuse in the plug right? They do very occasionally just give up from age.

Cheers all - ..now do you remember how your dad used to hit the side of the TV to fix it when it broke.... read on.

I was thinking ...hmm well no smoke or horrid noises, and no sign/smell of being burnt out ... fuse checked ok....the brushes look black and so is the surface of the copper coil.. so I THOUGHT that's the problem.

But then a miracle cure.... I banged it on the worktop and it started again...and lasted right through the job! So presumably a lose wire somewhere...
