  • Difference between 8A0505171C and 8D0505171

    Hello!

    At the moment I'm looking for rear wheel bearing housing bushes for my b4 quattro. Asked from local shops and sent some emails to web dealers and result is that they ask 15 euros per one B4 bush while the same bush for B5 costs between 3-4 euros. So are they different or not? From the picture they look same, but what about dimensions? Does B5 bushes fit B4 rear wheel bearing housing?
    I really need to get that fwd to quattro converted 1.8T B4 on the road

    This isn't going to answer your question but

    8A0505171C = bushing for RS2s up to VIN RA 001000.

    8D0505171 = bushing for RS2s after VIN SA 000001

    *BUT* the 82 mm RS2 rear wheel bearing housings, e.g. 8A0505427F for the left, stayed the same throughout the RS2 run.

    On that basis, one could assume that the bushings have the same basic dimensions.

      As I had one set of B5 rear wheel bearing arms at home I decided to remove old bushings and compare them to B4 ones. Dimensions are same, only difference is that B4 ones are filled with rubber, but B5 ones are half empty. As both of them were oem parts, I decided that if newer bushes work for RS2 and B5 quattros then they will also work for my B4 quattro. After that I went to shop and asked for 4 new bushes for B5 quattro and got Febi Bilstein ones, total price 20 euros and fit perfectly to my car. So B5 bushes fit B4 and there is no point to pay more

        HHmmmm i see what you trying to do because of price but the B5 bush was tweaked by audi to offere a little more give in the B5 rear set up albeit same as B4 but carried over to the new car. So i wouldn't necessarily agree with you on the handling side of things because a bush with a void is not going to be as good a handler as one thats solid.

        It would be interesting if you have photos of the old and new bush?

          Oh my. Bush. Void. Solid. Good handler.Old bush. New bush. request for photos.

          There is so much there to work with, a fellow with a dirty mind could have a field day.

          But enough about that...

          Back to Audis.

          A fellow over here was using a mixable two-part urethane to fill those hollow rubber suspension bushINGS with liquid urethane that then cured up into a squishable solid, stiffening the bushING appreciably.

            That's it dave.....good to see a sense of humour mate!

            Seriously...... you guys will laugh no doubt but back in 87 me and a mate both had 1982 X and Y reg mk5 2.0 ltr Ghia Cortinas and mint they were too . We were young and like all young guys have money to throw away Stupid really but we weren't to be told so.....spend we did. The rear axle bushes on our cars had the infamous rear Void bushes. So back in them days Demon Tweaks Burtons etc etc sold suspension packages by % percentage increases.10 20 30% increases were available. So we went 20% uprated Boge on the shocks and springs not lowered and bought the Cortina Estate rear axle bushes from ford plus all the other bushes from Ford. Those estate bushes were solid and not Void. The difference was amazing. Our cars became more comfortable yet poised through the stiffer set up yet the handling was so much better than standard almost ridiculously so. An unforgettable moment in my DrIving Life amongst a few others.

            So bushes make a huge difference to the way a car feels.
