After being stored in my parents garage since 2006 under all sorts of stuff (thanks dad ) as of this morning the mk1 is now in my garage.

Im in talks with a certain somebody on hear regarding the painting and even managed to do a few hours on it this afternoon, wings primed last of the tar striped of the floor (lovley job )

This project is now in it's 12th year and I WILL see it through if it kills me!

    Suggestions for colour welcome

She is 90 percent done. Everything has been replaced or refurbished.
I have lowered it 40 mm On springs has a rear arb is poly brushed and has a front lower brace.
I intend to retain a very standard look with silver campaign stripes.
it was painted at the end of 2012 but the paint was much good. I waited ages for the painter to rectify it but he had health issues and ceased working.
its been stripped back and has been on the back burner since.

That is not dissimilar to the story of this car, where the painter is concerned.
The rest of the delay is down to me, family, house, work and of course the s2 and this forum

                My plan now is:
                Almost standard exterior
Totally striped out inside, 2 seat and not a lot else
Something different engine wise (don't shoot me, I am considering a VETC)

This will be a "drivers" car

Cheers Nip my friend 401 @ 800Kgs that will be insanely fast

Scotty what was the car as standard?
I quite like the original yellow. I also like guinea blue and some of the pastel green shades.
Greg Howells green mk1 is a superb colour.

Seeing you car like that brings back memories.I bought the girlfriend at The time the 1.5 5 door in silver and she only went a banged the O/S/F corner.Muggins here had to fix it and spray it I enjoyed driving the golf but my Gt6 was my main driver at the time.

Best colour for me without a doubt is LHASA GREEN which they applied to only the campaign models i think.

I'm a big fan of LHASA GREEN and the Helious blue.

Where i'm stuck is this; I have an opportunity to paint this car inside and out in any colour I chose. Whilst the original mk1 colours are nice, I could have brought a car in any of those colours and not bare metaled it. Just a simple spray job would have done. I now feel almost obliged to do something different.

The short list at the moment in the particular order:

                        Rs2 blau
                        Duck egg blue
                        Helious blue
                        Ingido blue
                        Lhasa green
                        black

Blimey my Audi 1.9 WN 5cly CD saloon was Helios Blue.Really nice colour.
Rs2 blau... is that noggy? That would loook good. I know it's each to there own but for the life of me i cannot understand why duck egg blue appeals to some on a modern car? Just looks naff but great on a MGA or suitable sixtie car if you see what i mean. *****LHASA GREEN***** is the dogs do dahs on the Mk1's helios definately second place as i had that colour.

Originality doesn't count anymore on this car now it's a blank canvas so makes sense!!

Nice little project you have going on there. Judging by the colour was it formally a 1.1cl model?

Brings back memories of my blue 1.5 GL and the last of my MK1's, a black Y plate GTI. Fun little cars with a smile a day behind the wheel.

One little hmmm arghh is the possibility of you fitting a VTEC. Understand it’s your motor, and many have gone for the bang for buck and tuning options for the 1.8T but there aren’t many 16v turbo’s out there. Have a look at this months Performance VW mag. A nice red 16v turbo featured in there. And it’s for sale too. 9k.
