  • Door locks

Hi guys. been rebuilding my 1990 QC2.3 20v for two years now and well on the way for complete finish to a standard that i'm well happy with that is untill i come to get the new alarm installed. Up until now the car has been locked and unlocked using the key, the old fashioned way and now all of a sudden the locks wont work cant even push the buttons down with your finger, just not having it at all. Anyone any idea why this is now doing this, i mean one minute its fine and now just wont play. before i go taking the door cards off and medalling around can anyone out there put me towards what or where i should be looking for or at please. It must be something simple fort them to be working and then not in such a short space of time. Thanks

Can you lock/unlock from the passenger door or from inside the car with the doors shut?

I couldn't. I ended up removing the door cards and also testing the central lock vacuum pump. On the passenger side, after removing the door cards, everything was working ok.

Driver side, there was a lever that was disconnected.

Vacuum pump was working fine - though central lock doesn't work...!?!

Question like that, if 1 vacuum actuator from 1 door doesn't work. Will all central lock door stop working? i.e. I suspect that the driver's door actuator might be defective. Would that prevent the passenger door to activate the central lock?

        Thanks

if you unplug the pump does the locks then alllow you to push um down?

depending on pump type and if its like the s2 one or not. 3 pump types i know of. single solenoid from drivers door, 2 solenoid 2 doors and fancy allarm, closure pump i had in s2. if you have solenoid with 3 wires in drivers door chances are its the 2 solenoid type. there are 2 wires on the pump that control lock and unlock. one from weach door. 5 pins on the pump, 7 wire connector. id expect this is the pump same as my 1991.

          red - live-
          red black - ignition
          brown earth

2 trigger wires. iirc blue yellow and red blue.

a change in state is what triggers the open or close from either door

i had a faulty pump section rathe rthan door section. wire would only open not close. for both to play up would be rare id say dorr side so it must be holding a vac against the open solenoid so you cannot push down.

id unplug the pump, check they both work on key then disconnect one side plug first. and connect again. check you have good power to red, redblack and earth on brown on pump.

What I did is I have another CQ1990 that has working central lock. Interchanged the pumps. Still work on my other CQ. So pump is ok.

Now, I lock/unlock both doors with key.

            Passenger I can with knob

            Though still no central locking.

I think there's no power to the pump - though haven't tested like that.

I think driver's door actuator might me shot (seemed defective while trying by hand).

Would that prevent all lock to work the central lock?

My central lock vacuum pump had 4 wires.

            Cheers
