  • 3B ABS pulsing

    Hello all,

I'm sure this has been covered before but on coming to a halt my ABS pump kicks in. It only happens just before the car comes to a halt.

The car was off the road for a couple of years undergoing restoration, new wheel bearings were fitted at this time so there is a possibility something could have been damaged. Prior to the maintenance i had no issues with the ABS.

If i manually cancel the ABS there is no pulsing but the button sometimes does not work so can't rely on it 100%.

It's most annoying and would like to get to the bottom of it. Is there anything that might cause these symptoms that i can easily check before having to start dismantling hub carriers etc.

    Thanks
    Gordon

Check your wheel sensors. If the air gap is too big on any one of them it can create this behaviour. It's easy to dislodge one if you've had the hubs apart.

Good call with the sensors guys, found both front sensors could be moved slightly so rotated them back and forth gently whilst pushing at the same time. Not sure which one was the culprit but no more pulsing issues, yippee!!

        Cheers

Could also be the reluctor ring is cracked more than likely on older cars now.
Just spin the wheel and look at the toothed wheel on the driveshaft under the abs sensor check all 4 corners you can get new rings easy to replace

          Cheers Raj

            Glad you have solved it.

this is very typical symptom of a weak signal of one of the sensors. BTDT. And most often is the air gap, but it could also be a nasty/cracked ring. What I do, is that i push the sensors until they touch the CV joint teeth, and pull them back as little as possible afterwards.
