  • 1994 ABY Coupe Quattro - Fix up

    Hi all,

I am new around these parts, I recently purchased a 1994 S2 Coupe Quattro.

Over all she is fairly tidy

    160,000kms
    Carbon Fibre Interior Trim,
    Leather Seats.

It needs some cosmetic love/elbow grease but it wont take much to bring it back to A1.

This was the list from the previous owner.

    Good points:
    H&R Cup Suspension ('track' setup)
    Solid top mounts
Powerflex bushes, plus some custom Nolathane bits (eg; gearbox mount)
    Whiteline sway bar (rear)
MRC tuned chips (dyno results on this forum someplace)
Miltek SS exhaust + custom CAT replacement pipes
    Samco silicone inlet hoses
Custom boost gauge (back-lit, matches VDO dials)
Black leather + RS2-style carbon trim
Big stereo with sub, amps, and decent speakers all round
    Bluetooth hands-free (music and phone)

    Bad points:
roof scratches and a couple of small parking dings (otherwise very straight: never been in an accident)
    driver's window winder jammed
interior trim sagging (need new hood lining and re-glue door cards)
brake warning light on occasionally on cold start (booster replaced a few years back by CCC, on last service they said it seems OK)
a small coolant leak that I can't track down, maybe at heater? (coolant level drops slightly in recent cold weather, no water in oil or obvious leak)
very occasional smoke (oil) after long idle, otherwise no excessive oil use
minor water leak around rear tail lights (happens in heavy rain on most coupés: sealant around lights give up over time)

RS2 intercooler (reconditioned, waiting to be fitted)
RS2 inlet manifold to be fitted
2 x sets RS2 replica 17" rims, one set with new rubber
    Original Avus 16" rims

I have already cracked in to a strip down to sort out lots of little **** that annoys me

      - Sagging Headliner
      - Fix dodgy tail light connections (lights error-ing etc..)
      - Peeling Door Cards
      - New Centre Console
      - Interior Strip out and Carpet clean
      - New Passenger Seat Base.
      - Ditch the "Gauges"
      - Fix Drivers Window
      - New Windows switches.
      - Remove Aftermarket immobiliser.
      - Remove Aftermarket sound system.
      - Remove subwoofer etc.
      - Repaint Car (Factory Silver) as the clear is pretty ******ed...

The drivers side window was dead, the motor had seized, I had found a motor from a Audi 80 at a local wrecker and re wound the scroll in to that then cleaned and lithium greased the tracks. both sides work nice and fast now.

the door cards have both been stripped down cleaned, the vinyl re foamed and subsequently re-glued,

        Before

        During

        After

I just need to find some top corner seals for the right hand side door the left hand side the two top corner seals are ok.

Today the interior was mostly gutted also,

I also discovered the tail lights had been Siliconed in to the rear to i had to carfully cut around them to get them out.

I would really like to secure a set of Smoked tail lights, either that or smoke these ones darker....

and the headliner removed and partially cleaned in preparation for new Material.

And that thus far is all folks... I will try and get it down to the paintshop this week to sort out the crappy paint on the roof.....

          - Bigger brakes (Porsche) i am struggling to find all the components i need for this..

                Bostik 1333 or Ados F38

They both are virtually the same glue..
they seem to cope well with heat.. and cope well with hanging headliners..

I have done quite a few Headliners in the last two years (and door panels on my various cars) and all seem to be sticking very well

The Preparation is everything thou.... the surface has to be very well cleaned.

Lacker thinners is a pretty good way to get the old yukky crap off too...

Both door cards have been refoamed and reglued they have come out ok.. it was a pretty **** job trying to position the original fabric back in the original position.

and the headliner i have been cleaning off the mucky old crap bit by bit.. i hate this job.. yet i keep doing it on every car

This is the new fabric i will be using..

also the car goes in for Panel and paint next week.

There is a thread somewhere on the Forum about spray painting the rear lights with thinned down black paint. good results from what I remember. Forget Tresser they are silly money if you can find them last set I see on Ebay went for £700

Your paint shop should be able to tint your rear lights with proper paint - paint / lacquer mix
