  • Bottom windscreen seal

I have removed and cleaned the rubber windscreen seal that meets the rain scuttle, it was a mess and folded in with mastik everywhere. Anyone know what should be used to seal these over bottom lip of windscreen and body of the car?

Just replaced my screen a few weeks ago.
If its a Coupe its not actually a seal as the screen is bonded in, its more a push over finisher that pushes over the bottom edge of the gals then mates down to the scuttle area. I think the one I looked at was about £40-£50, Audi listed it but not sure of availability. The top we used an A4 or modern finisher, cut in the middle as one length wasn't enough, superglue the bits and spot on. Its possible this could be used on the bottom, although we didn't try it as mine was only tatty and cleaned up.

If you want I can find out where and what the top finisher we used was ?

    Cheers

Thanks for quick reply David, yes it is basically a seal between the windscreen and the scuttle and if it is not correctly lifted over top of scuttle then it can let water into the car. I am working on a Cabriolet right now so dont need the top finisher but thanks for the offer. It looks like it had some sort of sealant to hold the plastic part to the bottom of windscreen, the plastic part will not hold securely by itself, will try a bead of silicone.

You shouldnt need the silicone, you just need to make sure that the seal around the window overlap over the tops of the plastic scuttle panel or you will get water ingress

          Hi Gents

You shouldn't get a leak regardless of trim thru the screen they are all bonded.
2 brothers in the windscreen business for all of their time, corrected me when I asked about the seal, bluntly told its a finisher.

My brother fitted mine recently and I helped him, the bottom trim as Greg says just pushes on and gets trapped between the screen and surrounding area, shouldn't need any sealant.

As my brother said while fitting my screen, " they were a f pig to fit 30 years ago and they still f are, I hated them now and still do"

          Cheers

I have found a spare original and tried to fit it but turns out the car has had a new windscreen and there is too much bonding around the corners to fit the original cover, so have replaced the one that was on there which is similar but all rubber and needs a bit of contact adhesive.

Would have preferred to put on original but this would mean removing and refitting the windscreen and as you have said they are a real pig, have seen them done a few times and usually takes a couple of hours and remember my Dad had a Coupe done years ago and took the guy all day.

            Thanks for the replies.

The top trim was made up from Audi A4 1994 to 2001 top screen trims.
Had to get 2 as 1 isn't long enough, but clean cut and superglue hides the join.
My brother got these from the screen supplier at the same time as the screen.

                    Ciao

I got the top and bottom trims from a screen supplier a year ago. They don't list them anymore, but may be able to source the correct items for you.
