  • Brake master cylinder 7A 90

I'm looking for the part no for the brake master cylinder fitted to a 1989 RHD 90q20v with ABS. I can only find info on 441 611 021 A which is described as for LHD. Does anyone know what's the difference between LHD and RHD master cylinders?

It could be something as simple as the 2 bleed nipples being on different sides of the MC depending on whether they're to be fitted to a LH or RHD car?
I suspect the MC is the same for both variants?

But they come without bleed nipples, just blanking caps in the holes. I'm sure it's the correct one, but why specify for LHD if it's the same as the RHD one?

I was hoping that someone with ETKA would look up the part no

If you look at the 90 20v fwd, the same master cylinder is listed for both lhd and rhd

Hmmm, it also shows the Coupe q is the same, only the 90 q is listed as "Driver Position: for left-hand drive vehicles". I'll email ATE to see what they say about it.

If you ring up the likes of Eurocarparts they just need your Reg and off they go...replaced mine not long ago and was only 64 squiddles for the part ( was done at independent garage ). Try Pete at Quattro Corner too...HTH

Yeah, there are equivalents from many sources, even rebuild kits considering they are supposed to be un-dismantlable. I'm trying to go OEM first.

I dug a bit deeper into the ATE catalog and all the cars this master cylinder is fitted to says it's for left-hand drive vehicles.

Article Number: 03.2125-3210.3, ATE Brake Master Cylinder

                Article Criteria
Driver Position: for left-hand drive vehicles
                Ø: 25,4 mm
                Number of connectors: 4
                Thread Size: M10x1
                Length 1: 36 mm
                Length 2: 116,2 mm

I've mailed them to see what's the problem.

                  thank you for your inquiry.

Excuse me please, but for a right-hand drive Audi 90 quattro, is a brake
Cylinder not on sale in the ATE Aftermarket .

                  Please contact the vehicle manufacturer.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards
err, thanks for that info, at least they replied So ECP it is then.

                      I suspect you're overthinking this.

The coupe quattro 20v uses this MC and there's no notes about lhd or rhd - same part for both

I don't think I'm overthinking this, I was just trying to buy an OE part instead of an aftermarket one, and I'd rather not assume that ATE have printed the wrong information in their specification. I've bought two aftermarket ones so far, one was cancelled due to supplier issues and the other one hasn't turned up yet.

For reference, this is the one I removed after the front brakes stuck on during hard braking (ABS kicked in). I felt the pedal drop about 10mm. The master cylinder was too hot to touch, but released the brakes when I doused it in cold water:

and this is the spare I fitted that won't build up pressure, to show how it's plumbed in:

As you know, I've got the same car. I'll take a look in the morning to see if I can see any part number

When I put my reg in to ECP, it gives me the wrong one. 22mm non ABS ATE master cylinder

ECP gave me this from my reg, which seems correct?
