  • P/S pump high pressure hoses

The hose from pump to steering rack is leaking where it is swaged ? crimped ? to the steel part with the banjo bolt at the rack end..

i notice there is a restrictor / one way valve half way down the hose, need yere opinion on this not sure what it is!

can i get a normal hydraulic hose made up without it ?

You can get a normal hose made up, but it will be noisy compared to the original. Whatever you want to call the bit half way down the hose seems to eliminate noise, rather than just to clamp to the metal bracket, maybe has other functions as well (valve?).

Also having had a replacement braided hose split at the rack end there must be very high pressure in this area. I then got a second hand Audi hose and no more noise.

Still available at Audi but mega £ss, i'd try and find a good condition second hand hose.

I had a hose made up for my ABY... from the pump to the bomb and it had this bit half way down. The one I had made doesnt have it and its perfectly fine in operation. No extra noise at all...

The restrictor it's not in the middle lumpy part in that position there's just a reinforcement brace for the inside plastic pipe.
Real restrictor it's in one of the end parts rack side if i remember well.

A good thing to do which i did'nt.... Stocious it's to cut the hose and take pictures of it's guts for future memory...

Im not sure why so many people get noisey hoses after they get new ones made??? Maybe its the wrong hose they used??? Is aw somethign written saying there was different types of internals in some hoses and that might be the issue? I hope I never have to find this out though lol

I think you could be right. Could be the steel loop which is necessary to prevent noise. The bulge in the middle of the hose could just be for the bracket.

You do get used to the noise, but it slightly taints the greatness of the cabin IMO

The guy in the Hose place was dead set the coil was there for a reason, i think he was spot on.

If i remember correctly from pictures the bomb is also rubber mounted also ? presume if that was solid mounted there would be pump noise there also ?
