  • Alloy top mounts

    Afternoon gents,

After getting some front shockers sorted out, the next part of the puzzle is top mounts that won't fall apart after going to the shops & back and don't cost a fortune either. After a quick search I found the following top mounts...they look good enough & if they'll last a while aren't too expensive either.
Anyone had any experience with them or other comments/recommendations?

    cheers in advance,

Look like the same as a lot of others. THe bearings tend to be the weak points and the top caps are a pain to keep tight.

    What springs are you running?

OE with mount savers, 034 voidless or Meyle HD are all fine for a stock car.

Standard springs as I don't want to lower it (cr@p roads up here!). The thing is after looking a various threads on all those you've mentioned, they can all fail fairly quickly going by others experience with them. Maybe I'm being over paranoid about them failing with only uprated dampers, I'm not sure. It could be a case of try it and see how it goes I guess. I think the Meyle HD's would possibly be the ones I'd go for if I had to buy something right now. I've still got a few weeks before I'd be looking at replacing them so have a bit of time...
      cheers

The solid billet ones worry me due to the stress applied through the strut towers.

I'm not sure how the stock ones fail. I ran them for ages on HnR + Koni and they were fine. Guess it's luck of the draw Luke everything else.

The solid mounts I am testing have bearings that are designed to last and cost about the same as the complete solid top mounts, so I'm not surprised that the cheaper ones eat the bearings.

                Adjustable top mounts

Is there Anyone who have used VW Golf top mounts?
The reason I'm wondering is because I can't find any cheaper adjustable offset top mounts for that price.

And I don't want to drill holes in the chassi which you need to do with a several other plate models...

The idea comes from this thread...
                http://uk-mkivs.net/topic/103124-aud...mounts-how-to/

And I thinking about to order these
                http://silverproject.pl/camber-plate...518e01b9374765

But I also wonder what the size differences is from MK2/MK3 to MK4. they looks very similar according to me and a low top mount will I prefer rather if it's possible instead.

Have sent him a mail cause I know that the Audi OEM top mount is 75 mm in top and 80 mm at the bottom.
And I now all of these top mounts uses an m14 nut so that It's not a problem.

Well, I finally got the new (Bilstein) suspension & Meyle HD top mounts fitted yesterday and all I can say is WOW!
I didn't realise just how FUBAR'd the front suspension truly was until it was replaced. There's no more knocking when going over bumps, it brakes in a straight line, doesn't tramline & the front springs don't intermittently 'twang' when steering. The actual steering feel is a lot lighter too!
Not the cheapest suspension refresh I've ever had done but certainly one of the best improvements
Time will tell how long the top mounts last for now...the last one's managed 4 years+ so there's a lot to live up to

I think that in a couple of years time ill bite the bullet and fit coillies and solid top mounts. What I've just put on is a million times better than it was but could still do with a bit of firming up. Still a happy bunny though

I run compbrake units on few of my cars and love them.. no issues and no change in ride quality.
