  • TPS dinked panel

So ordered a side panel for the coupe for next year when it's getting repainted and also sorting a poor rear arch area repair from years gone by. Wanted to get one now before they're obsolete , also ordered new wings .

So TPS : your panels in but it's got a couple of dinks so need you to look at it.
Me : ok so if I have it with the dinks will you knock some off?
    TPS : no . It's already discounted.
    Me : yeh but it's substandard .
TPS : I know, but can't knock any more off . Need to look at it or I've got so ship it back .
Me : well if I'm paying full money I'll have another one no dinks so send it back.

So the panel will head back to Germany where I bet it'll sit for ever then be sold off cheap !! Sure the dinks could've been sorted by a body shop and if it was the last panel in existence then I'd have had it....

You'd think they'd have knocked off the cost of shipping and reshipping? Save them a lot of hassle?
I think you're quite right to ask for another panel if you're paying the same price.

I haven't seen the damage, but it's not uncommon for parts to be damaged by picking robots. I rejected one item only to find the replacement had similar damage. They consequently offered me the part at cost price.

It's a piss take by TPS or otherwise known as bloody mindedness. They have what you want, you either take or it or leave it.You called their bluff. They should offer a discount but decide to be .....

Small dents in factory panels is extremely common and should not put you off! Your bodyshop expects that.I saw a nice big flaw in the wing they fitted to the S2 coupe O/S/R shown on here,no harm they prepped it and blended it in with primer filler, now it's painted it looks perfect.

Yep agree , I know how flimsy panels are even in boxes and shipping they get dinks , I'm surprised they checked em tbh , as in box I prob wouldn't have seen til I got it home.

But for the hassle and shipping you'd have thought they would have knocked £50 off something!?

Body shop would've sorted for sure but that's not the point.

Annoying fro sure......but be careful, they won't keep on ordering panels forever.
It might be that the first panel was the best they had.

I wonder if they're old stock ? They can't be still pressing them as there's no demand ? TPS guy gonna speak to factory as they come unboxed as do the front wings ??!! Which is crazy.

That's strange with the price...unless its minimum they can sell for as there are minimum prices set up by vw.group. Simply the system won't let them do it.
But from the bright side service parts are cheaper there then aftermarket ones by about 2-3£.also quantum oil which i bought recently for my t5 *** mover.
Hope the next panel will be perfect.

I would say they're old stock, manufacturers have lots of this stuff left over from there 10 year obligation especially rear quarters as they're a professional fit only and rarely sell. Obviously this dwindles over time but my personally opinion is Audi are being canny deciding to keep the desirable stuff from their stocks and sell high instead of selling of cheaply to other suppliers who will then sit on the stock and sell slowly over a long period.

I once as a serious enthusiast bought 2 Sierra Mk1 inner rear quarters from Ford with 50% discount ( from Roof to lower Sills, wheel arch inner and outer and suspension turrets ) all as one panel because they had some storage flash rust in a few places but this was 20 years ago and it all came unboxed even the new outer rear quarters and front wings. It's just the way it is/was.

Yeh I guess .... the TPS guy has a sneaky suspicion that they resent the same panel back - as damage was identical to the first one ... So he returned straight away and was gonna try have a word with the factory.. So will see what the next one looks like.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I need some suspension arms for my A6, and have looked on the TPS website- where it seems they don't list the A6! (I've Not got an account BTW).

Is this correct, or am I going insane (which Is a possibility)

If not TPS, any suggestions for suppliers of (close to) OE quality arms??

                            Cheers
