  • Elipsoid RHD conversion

Just sussed out how to change them over, making them proper RHD (with the low side to the curb).
Fiddley job but I thought if anyone wants some changing over either way I can now offer this service. Saves buying some replacements when cars are bought and sold to the continent.
It'll stop my MOT man moaning as he has for the last four years!

Hi, please tell us how you did it.
I'm interested in doing the exact opposite : buying a pair of elipsoids from a RHD car and using them on my LHD. I hope I can still find that cheap pair from a cabriolet a guy was breaking (~200 euro). The only reason I want to do this conversion is because LHD elipsoids are very expensive (350-400 euro). If you know someone that sells them at a resonable price let me know.

At last, is the conversion possible or not? I know there is a lever that lowers the passenger's side one, but I think that this is for ocassional use (or not?).. so is there anything else that could be done?

Hmmm i'd like to know this too...Unfortunately GT500, i'm the wrong end of the Earth to have you do it for me. Is there a way I can part with cash for the info? I'm spying some LHD ellipsoids on ebay.de. if i can flick them over easily enough I'll buy them.

No one wants these doing anyway.
So i'll try remember how its done..

You need to strip the lights down so you end up with the elipsoid part in your hand.
Then four screws hold the lense and beam dipper to the bulb holder. remove the screws.
The part with the dipper has to be reversed. So cut it off and flip it over and weld it back together. The spring also needs flipping but you'll see what I mean. Paint the welds and as haynes says rebuild is the reverse of strip down...

Not an easy job and you will need to be able to weld, better done with the TIG.

And what is that lever for? I supposed it was LHD/RHD switcher.

Seems to be the same lever as mentioned in this link:-

It just flattens out beam for temporary driving in "opposite hand drive" countries, not switches it over
