  • rs6 4.2 into s2

Hi guys I have a rs6 c5 engine that I want to put into an s2 that I am really excited about, has been my dream to explore these V8 turbo engine ever since they came out.

Plan is to run stock ecu but ditch the heavy (140kg) auto and use the 01e (80kg) gearbox 6 speed. I have been doing some research as far as I can see the 01e can fit without an adapter plate with some mods and custom starter and "should" hold the power. If the gears fail I have been in contact with PPG which are developing a new gearset for the 01e!

I am fully prepared to fabricate a tubular front chassis as I know the v8 will be a tight squeeze in the S2 bay, I have carried other conversions ie 4wd swaps and rear engine setups in VW "world" so fabrication should be doable.

What I dont have much solid info on is the drivetrain, I believe 6 speed S2 come with the 01e? Are the driveshafts and rear diff up to spec to hold the V8 power and are the cv's strong enough for hard launches? Is there differences in 01e gearboxes through the years in strength? Is the bellhousing of S2/S4/RS4/ and TDI V6 cars the same? I would want to use 01e with the longest ratios as the engine should produce 800-1000hp. I plan to run a custom flywheel with a tilton triple clutch.

How does the S2 bay compare to the B5 A4 in length and width?

    Many thanks

Is the bellhousing of S2/S4/RS4/ and TDI V6 cars the same? yeah.... they will fit; minor differnce may bee; as the clutch and the release pin( length) for the hyroilic unit in the bellhousing... use the diesel versom after 95... ; have a controll of the gearcode in the top of the bellhousing.... let it bee the same ratio in front and rear...

Speak to PRJ on the forum I believe he is involved in a manual RS6 project, and can help with the mapping to remove the auto box.

Stock S2 drivetrain is pretty reliable up to around 550-600lbft, if treated with respect. Hard launches kill stuff very quickly. 800-1000lbft will start to break stuff, a lot of stuff and gearboxes, diff, shafts, CVs and hubs will be consumables.
Have a look at some of the projects on the forum to get an idea about this, Aaron's drag CQ would be a good read as he also tube framed the front end:

AFAIK you will need an adapter plate of sorts as the RS6 V8 bellhousing configuration is unique.

It would be better to use the later 01E from a B5 S4 or RS4, they bolt up to the RS6 engine. Not sure how the S2 shafts will hold up with that much power, the manual RS6 I did did have stock shafts and diff etc etc with 750+bhp and RS4 box, which was ok, but eventually the box broke.
        Cheers,

        Chris

Raven Motor Sport (www.ravenms.com) did many manual rs6 conversion
They even designed their own flywheel
If you need help with parts, i can hook you up with them.

I got software to match it, no problem.
Have a few RS6's with manual conversion and they drive like they came with that from factory. Spent months perfecting every little aspect, such as injector cutoff, idle PID, in-gear coasting and so on.

thanks for the input guys all good info. I came across a build recently where the 0a3 gearbox from the B7 was used into a manual swap c5 RS6. Stock engine on twin gtx3071 turbos 21 psi netted 770awhp this was in the hot climate of Oz too.

So the 0a3 is a direct bolt on and rumored to be stronger than the 01e?

PRJ that sounds great, they use the ME7.1.1, so no widebands egt ect. Where are you based?

Tuning one like that in Australia at the mo. It hasn't made this amount of power yet though.

No, it is not, involves a LOT of fabrication. 01E is much easier.

Far away place. No worries, can be done remotely.
ME7.1.1 on RS6 has dual wide range EGT's.
No WBO2 built in, but easy to sort for tuning.

yeah, that much awhp and torque is gonna break lots of stuff. i met my drivetrains capabilities (axles and cv's mostly, and mine are all custom) at 870 awhp/625 wtq or so, last year.

and OP has hit me up on FB, i have just been buuuusssssy as fawk with work.
