  • 100bar v 75bar pump

    Hello

Following up from a different thread regarding 90q 20V saloon power steering system...

Latest fubar with this system appears to be over-pressurization of the lines resulting in power steering fluid flowing out of the top of the reservoir and the main pulley shaft blowing the seal in a ZF reman pump.

Brake bomb delete and conversion to vacuum assist completed well before project start.

Stock 7A pump is rated at 100bar...Would using this pump with the appropriate piston removed result in the return line receiving too much pressure? Is there any way to simply step down the pressure output or is it too much of a PITA?

For comparison, a 75bar pump is currently used on my Urq with AAN conversion and Porsche style reservoir...No problems, only that an 049 145 155 X pump which I believe came from a 4000q or Urq is NLA

    Cheers

The reservoir and front shaft housing of the PAS pump aren't under pressure at any point.
If the shaft seal is blown ts likely due to a worn shaft or journal in the housing.

Is this a B3 90? If so they run 100bar stock. What rack are you using?
You can adjust the pressure on the pump by reshimming the relief valve but will take some testing with a pressure gauge to set it right.

Removing a piston from the brake stage is a ghetto way of doing it. If you want a proper direct fit single stage pump drop me a line

Yes, B3 90q20V using the 034 short ratio steering rack. Piston removal per 034 sop recommendation.

Currently in holding pattern with them awaiting their solution on how best to proceed with system correction.

      Will send PM...Thank you Sir
