  • Audi 80 steering rack

    Hello!

    I'm having problems with my power steering.

    I've done:
    * Engine swap from 2.8 V6 to 2.3 20v
    * Replaced the tandem pump with the V6 pump
    * New steering rack

    So, if I turn my wheels to the left, the pump starts spinning by itself. If I turn wheels to the right, pump is staying still. That means if I tighten the belt, I can only turn wheels to the right. Starting the engine will make the steering rack move by itself, though it hasn't any air inside. Also I don't have any valves inside the banjo bolts.

    Exactly like this ^

    What should I do?

    Sounds like the rotary valve in the rack is damaged and/or the fluid return is blocked.

      You've switched your power steering lines. Connect them the other way around.

        Yep, the lines were switched. Took many hours but the steering wheel is now very easy to move.
