  • rear calipers - how does the hand brake work?

As title - does the handbrake interact with the hydraulic lines or does the handbrake just 'pull' on the calipers?

If upgrading to 4 pot rears - what'd you need to do?

The handrake is a cable driven mechanism which tugs on an actuator at the rear caliper which causes the brake piston to move towards the disc. There is no hydraulic interaction.

Why on earth are you considering 4-pots at the rear ?

Did I hear you right ???

I agree the rear of the S2 is underbraked (not as bad as front though) but a larger rear disc with suitably bigger single pot calipers and carriers are well up to the job as so much weight is transferred to the front of the car under heavy braking that the risk of locking the rear wheels is increased if you had too much braking effort applied to the rear discs.

Mark Halligan (our ever resourceful modmeister) can advise the details of his 280mm rear disc conversion with S8 rear calipers. It can be done cheaper than what he had to pay sourcing many parts from new. I've been in his car during a few brake tests and the balance is mighty fine - it is paired up with a MovIt 4-pot 322mm kit at the front.

.... would probably end up selling the rears to someone with a saxo for a 'big brake' conversion for their fronts (299 x 24) but just thinking about all the possibilities on an S2 ...

      cheers anyway Paul!
