this was the tricky bit, over the rear axle.....

Dont look at the hanger, i made that, im not the best when it comes to sheet metal work.

All this was made from scratch in one day. The back box is just made from sheet steel bent and folded etc to make the shape. There is a baffle plate welded in aswell.

It sounds a bit like a jet fighter when on boost. Quite a mad noise. Heres a low quality vid clip of it that was shot from inside a Golf VR6.

try that. It also made the car go a bit better, better boost build up. But if the turbo seals are a bit weak, then this type of pipe can make the car burn more oil, due to the reduced back pressure.

            Tom,

Did you pass the noise limit at CC the last time you were there?

Yours is bound to be louder the mine and it would be nice to know I'll get on the track in October.

I see you say it was split - when I took my car to be fixed at a custom exhaust place he said he was amazed that there was no flexi pipe, especially on cars the produce so much power - I can see his point - especially if you have fixed brackets - I had a split going into the first silencer as that was taking all the weight right up to the exhaust Manifold.

It got through the noise check both times i've been now. They ask you to rev it up to about 3000 rpm. I did this and the blokes said that doesn't sound too loud so they didn't even use the sound meter. I think the trick is to raise the revs slowly, otherwise the turbo will spool up and thats when it makes a noise. My mates could hear me coming from about 4 corners away at combe. Its loud when on boost, but who cares. There is no law on the roads about a noise level, i checked with the old bill.
