where to get 6 point ring end spanner/box wrench

I'm fed up rounding nuts with the ring end of a spanner, when you can't get a good 6 side socket at it. So snap on do 6 sided ring spanners that grip much better than normal 12 point ones. But they are big money and I'm not a fan of snap on.

Americans call them box spanners. Which is confusing as a box spanner in the UK is different. Craftman do them here.

Snap on here

But where to get in the UK. Great for manifold bolts. Cheers des.

Try Halfrauds and their Professional range... Life time warranty...

Bloody nice stuff My full time Mechanic mate (& S2 Bo & others) told me to use them as he does rather than snap-on and a fraction of the price...

Des, Wurth have a set of 10,12,13,17,19 & 22mm combination spanners part number 0714 255 50
The ring end is what you want with a 15 degree angle.
The open end has a slightly odd shape designed for opening nuts quickly.

Individual spanners are available in the following sizes 8,10,12,13,14,16,17,19,22 & 24
The part number in this case is 0714 255 followed by 08 for 8mm, 10 for 10mm etc..

Page 797 of the 2008 Automotive Product Range catalogue. I have an account with them and could get you a price if you have no joy your side of the water.
If you have a friendly mechanic with a Wurth account you'll get a reasonable price if the product is still available.

HTH

i am American, and i (nor any of the Millwrights that work for me) do not call them spanners. combo wrench, open end wrench, end wrench, wrench, box end wrench, ratchet wrench.

i first heard "spanner" from some Kiwi's (New Zealand guys) who work for us....

and if you need one/some, i can send it from America no problem. any number of fine quality tool companies.

Snap-on (you dont like for what reason? maybe made in America?), Proto, Wright, Blackhawk (Proto/Stanley), MAC, Matco, Williams, Blue Point (Snap-on lower end), etc. i think all listed also have lifetime warranty.

Right I will call hunter and also look out for a wurth guy. Thanks for the kind offers of shipping guys. It's amazing they are so hard to get here!

I have many different tools, mostly teng some halfords prof or advanced as its now called. And some snap on, right down to cheap crap to for beating on things.

The snap on is good enough quality, don't get me wrong. But they charge mega bucks for it, then try and get you to pay for it on finance at like 100 quid a month forever. I see snap on a bit like Apple. The stuff is good BUT its way over priced and as good or better is available for about half the price. Just trading with the name really.

some snap-off stuff is good. others are a bit overpriced IMO.

best to have a nice range of stuff. differnt brands are different shapes etc.

the snap-off bolt/nut removal tools are great. the ones for rounded stuff.

Halfords gets my vote, Its good stuff and very well priced. Also the guarantee is very good and you can get just about anything replaced.

To be honest the problem your having is one I have never experienced and I spanner for a living mainly on classics with lots of rounded bolts and nuts.

My tool kit consists of various sockets but I always use impacts for anything I even suspect will round off, they are so cheap now that if I was to replace any of my sockets they would be replaced with impacts anyway.

Spanners though are just a variety of standard ring/open enders and rachet spanners. You don't need to be putting silly torque through a spanner and if you are then a socket should be used, there are not many nuts and bolts you can't get a socket on to unless your trying to shortcut round jobs by not removing items in order.

Shortcuts are rarely short.

Oh and I use a variety of makes inc. Snap on, teng, gordons, draper, britool but my favourite day to day stuff is made by Halfords Pro. Anyone who says it's crap either doesn't know what they are talking about or has a hidden agenda.

I hate this forum at times...

After reading this thread and posting my 1st reply I wen to have a surf round the Halfrauds site and its just cost me another £40.00...

Just found these at 1/2 price and had been eyeing them up for a while... But not at £80.00 for the set...
