Hi guys,

got my mates acer aspire 5735z with me after he got a virus we think, the networking has stopped working both wireless and wired. message from repair center says that the ethernet controller is having harware/ driver problems, have reinstalled the driver but as of yet no joy.

All came about when the idiot clicked yes to one of those check ypur computer for virus now pop up's.

Macafee wont run a scan and i cant seem to get anythng else on there to scan it either.

Suggestions if posible please, just about to try a scan in safe mode

Scan in safe mode got further but still did not complete saying error click ok to return to homepage?????
No more joy on anything else either, reset the windows an lan sockets using cmd functions and also ran a widows safe scan from cmd with nothing found to be untoward.

Confusing me.

Still can't get another virus scan software on there and Macafee found 8 trojans during the failed scan in safe mode.

Thoughts or what to do next please guys.

Delete temp files, both C:windows\temp and C:users\*name*\Appdata\local\temp
you'll need to make sure hidden files are showing.
Reboot into safe mode with networking and try to run an online virus scan like http://housecall.trendmicro.com or www.eset.co.uk
Failing this can you remove the drive and scan it in a working machine or run a linux live cd and scan it from there.

Get an Anti virus on there to clean it up, and spywhere too. I recommend Malwarebytes to search out dodgy software running on there. My rule is spend an hour, if you dont get anywhere after that your better to start to again and reinstall IMO.
