You could never buy just a bare block. Audi would only cell you a block with pistons. The PN for that is 034103101N (your 034103021M is the casting only - which you can't buy).
034103101N = AAN, ABY and ADU

Hi mate!
this was that my etka told me, the original it's NLA (bloque motor=engine block)
And my question is if the ADU block has the same number as the AAN/ABY stamped on it
Because a friend of one customer told him that ADU block has different ref. number in the past, but now Audi dealer sell you the same as AAN/ABY...so I need an ADU block ref. number photo to believe him...because I think that in the past an now a days has the same number on the block 034 103 021M

Audi's records for your RS2 will only have the number stamped on the head. Nothing about the block.
Sounds like you are having a registration issue or you are trying to verify if the engine is really an ADU. Good lluck with that.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

I know that the engine number it's stamped on the head near the cam pulley, but the question was about the block ref. number .... A friend of my customer said that was different than AAN/ABY, And I told my customer that has the same

old thread but ...
have an 034 103 021M block and don't think it's ADU,
got it in parts with a lot of other pieces, among others an early AAN-head (tuna-can distributor)
It may be AAN but on the block itself it was mounted a thermostat cover w/part# 035 121 121 A, indicates it's a MC block from A10Q
anyway,
most of the 5-pots are 2.2 litres w/stroke of 86.4 so mby any block (bore = 81.0) may be used as replacement for any other ?

I have a 034 103 021M block and it appears to be good to mount most of my 3B hardware. On the same side of the block as the casting number, you will see the year it was cast. It appears that the later blocks were machined as per ABY/AAN specs for the dipstick tube and in my case the one way valve to the head. I really need to identify which dipstick tube it requires. Any suggestions on dimensions to measure?Last edited by SteveH; 2 September 2019, 16:54.91 Modded 3B

As far as I know it's pretty simple: later blocks require AAN or ABY detachable dipstick tube (2 possible OEM options).
Earlier blocks like 3B already have pressed-in tube.
Ghetto AAN dipstick with 3B intake:
