  • Mk2 Gti G60

I picked this up this evening and know a couple of other members appreciate MK2's, it needs a little tidying up but is very straight and completely solid.

My intention is to first off give it a proper service then set about sorting out 101 silly little jobs before giving it serious detail. I might even pay someone to sort out the couple of inevitable tiny stone chips etc.

The list off job's is large but their all easy things and literally every part required come's with the car new in VAG packets. Silly things like someones put red bulbs in the switches, nasty after market rear lights and front indicators, both front window reg's require changing, etc etc etc.

It's sat on Koni fully adjustable coil-overs so I can raise the ride height back to a sensible level also stupid things like it's got 2 brand new rear calipers fitted along with G60 Corrado front brakes but the systems not bleed properly A serious plus is the pervious owner fitted a Black Diamond clutch and hybrid 16V/Desisel gearbox with a Quaiff LSD, it needs it being over 200 BHP.

Plus it's filthy inside and out and not been used much for the past couple of years, it was however Taxed and tested up till within the last month and doesn't require anything apart from an exhaust rubber and one brake flexi to past another which it will be going for soon. Has a perfect full service history from VAG up to the year it was converted (2009) and all documents since, Storm Developments did the conversion.

I was keeping an eye out for a second stock S2 to do the polishing thing with as my 3B's a pretty rough and ready kinda affair and to be honest it staying like that a while as I like being able to park where ever I want and even go off road if needs be. So as this was on my door step and I know MK2's just as well I thought why not.

                Cheers chaps

The charger sound is much more audible in the Golf compared to my Corrado, much less sound deadening plus the charger spins a fair bit quicker in the Golf with it's smaller pulley and corresponding chip.

It's very likely I'll be changing the pulley for a larger one along with the appropriate software, I'm not a huge fan of tuning the nut's off G60's, their stressed enough in stock form and the Golf is a lot lighter than a Corrado. I feel 180BHP would still be enough power to make it a lot of fun and would probably double the service life of the charger compared to amount of boost it's pushing out now.

I had a 5dr 16v in Red and loved every minute of it. Enjoy, very jealous.

Cheers Steve, you'd love this one, there's many hours to be spent detailing and I know the results are going to be very rewarding. I've purchased this with the intention of getting the body and interior up to concourse levels and taking it too shows.

My other cars are all mechanically excellent but each require either painting of large areas or complete resprays to get looking tidy. I'm not prepared to pay the price decent paint work commands when I can do 90% of the work myself so I'm waiting for a colleague to finish his new workshop with spray booth and I'll be doing the work.

                      Looks lovely that kit!

If you do need any G60 bits and Bob's or advice, a mate of mine runs http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk

It's very airide and stance based now, but he knows his stuff with g40/g60 bits and does a quick turn around for reconditioning if it needs it. Plus they've started making bits which are nla, throttlebody gaskets and such.

Cheers Kieron, I'll get in touch with your mate regarding a larger pulley and chip

Looks really good buddy. Pity it's not a 2 door but then again it does help with the the sleeper look with extra doors and it does look very nice mate.

Cheers Chris, I know what you mean about the number of doors three would be preferable but as I've not seen a MK2 with this good of a body since the the late 1990's I can live with the extra two.

I'm going to leave it badged as an 8V and once I sort the suspension and lights out it will appear totally stock unless someones observant enough to notice the 280 mm brakes.
