  • 314 v 323 discs with 996s

I think I need new discs form my 996/314mm front brakes (bambridge calliper carriers)

Are the 314 and 323 discs the same hat height?

If so is there any reall benefit of switching to 323s? (eg better venting)

What I found between smaller setup and 323 is that there was no overlap on the pad so the pad actually covered the whole disc.

Fit like a glove and I do believe hat height was the same but I forgot. Didn't notice any further protrusion of the wheel than before.

Same dims other than diameter. Only reason to go 314 is so you can fit OE 16s on. 323 are rear vented, so would be better with brake ducts.

Weigh a ton though, may as well go S5 disc with cayenne calipers like steveh

they are something stupid weight wise. I remember borrowing some from a local dealer to check fitment on a set of brembo monos from a Megane before going down the 996 c2 route.

              Thanks gents.

If I was going to go BIG I would want alloy bells, no point doubling the wheel weight.

345x29.5 S5 disc is a bit on the skinny side...i always think the 323x30s would be better as 32's for heat dissipation

That make no sense, the S5 disc has more mass at 10.9kg and more surface area, so
will have much better heat dissipation.

It would be good to have a thread detailing the weights of different discs and calipers, for reference. I will start one

at 100mm offset from centre, and keeping the top of the disc in the same location, the caliper would have to move up by the following amounts over and above the diameter difference.

                        314mm - Datum
                        323mm - 1.28mm
                        330mm - 2.21mm
                        335mm - 2.84mm
                        345mm - 4.01mm

As the 330 is the largest disc that the caliper is designed to accommodate (albeit in 28mm thickness), you'd have to accept a 1.8mm overlap or decrease some clearance from somewhere. I'd suggest that you could get it down to a 1mm clearance with a bit of a close shave!

That is great info, thanks Andy.

I am surprised at the weight.

I am interested in your other thread now.

TT uses 340x30 discs but offset and centre bore are off.
