  • Audi S4 small drag project

Hi, I have upgraded my car about 2 month ago from a Dacia (renault 12) to an Audi S4 quattro, AAN, engine, and was pleased with it, apart from fuel consumption, but that is another story. I was following the racing scene in my country (RO), for about 4 years, but never been part of it, but i want to change that, so i bought a second Audi S4, crashed, but hopefully this will become a small project, (meaning time and money - small). To make a long story short, i want a drag car, which will only do drag races, so it does not have to be street legal. I want a low 11 sec car, hopefully, and a somewhat good reliability. My thoughts atm, are some like this :

    - small weight - i really dont need anything in my car, which has no use - so i hope about 1250kg
    - Upgraded power to about 400-450 crank hp, + 150-200 NOS shots

now, this is what i want, but i want to know the following (i read most of the post from project forum, but they are mainly street driving, or andurance, - drag car with high buget, so i am not fitting in) :

    - stock crank - will support this kind of power ? will be betere a tdi crank, which i can find, quite easy?
    - i will change rods (to stronger ones) , and piston (to lower CR), probably from 034 , any better alternative ?
    - headgasket - dont know which one ,
    - stock Head flows quite well from what i understood as i don want to pay 1000$ for a 1000 hp flowing head,
AAN intake, i dont thing that will take about 400 hp, so probably some made in RO (cheaper), or Wagner
    - high output coils, from 034 (a must ? )
    - Exhaust Manifold, Wagner tubular
    - Downpipe, and exhaust, will be made locally , - 3'' or 4" i dont know, i am waiting for recomandations and maybe a side exhaust, no cats, mufflers, etc.
    - Oil Pump, - stock ?
    - Wastegate - dont know, advice needed
    - VEMS , because i can tune it in RO (and cheaper)
    - FMIC (it will not have front bumper, so it can be quite large), pipes, made here, -core imported
    - injectors , from 034 will be acording to final power, and turbo suggestions.
    - fuel pump, dont know, maybe a small front gas tank ? and 2 fuel pumps ?
    - Turbo - i saw that many drags audi use GT40, or something quite large, i think that is to big, for me, as i dont intend to stroke the the engine, so i am waiting for recomandations again.
    - i gueese that my stock 5 speed, wil not hold that powers, so maybe a diesel quattro gearbox will fit (i know that is has different gear ratio) as i cant get my hands on an rs2 gearbox.
    - clutch , advice neded.
Bottom line, low 11s, not street legal, small budget, medium reliability
PS. sorry for my poor english, (i was learing russian in school), and my poor tech skils, but i want to ask, and learn from others mistakes, rather that from my own

AAN inlet manifold will easily do 400hp.

service channels are the little holes where you can, stick your tool and remove the bolts on the Im down by the head.
