3256 is the crank pulley tool. It’s actually not that good as it doesn’t fit the ABY properly. I read its only cars that had aircon that it won’t fit, the mount is about an inch from the engine block so you can’t bolt it in place.

With the engine on a stand i ended up resting that tool on a pair of drive on car ramps, stood on top of the crank pulley and then stood on the end of my 6-foot breaker bar. Jumped up and down a bit and then fell off when the nut came undone great fun.

I also have the tool for 7A/3B's and it’s a bit better as it grabs the sub mount from memory. Had more success with it (2084).

Here's a thought does the aby have the bolt holes for the snub mount to the right of the turbo? My AAN does(since it's from an s4 the stock snub is a bit lower) and I think if I stick snub/alt bracket on there I can use my 10v crank lock tool 2084

I'm 99% sure you can, i can double check that for you as i have both pulleys at home.

My 3256 locking tool fits aircon & non aircon cars ... it was used it on mine & briggsy's with no problems

All you need to make it fit is an spacer about an 1'' long & some threaded m10
                  rod

                  I'll get some pic's

I checked the 10v tool would work but atlast it won't fit the crank pulley correctly so best to get the correct tool or build your own http://cuatrokoop.audi-quattro.org/index.htm

The spacer goes here...all the spacer does is stop the tool from moving in & out ,The original threaded stud is not long enough with the spacer, i used some M10 threaded rod from B&Q Also supporting the crank locking tool is a must ! having a the M10 rod snap in the block would be a real PITA

Do you quote the same 3256 tool number when buying from audi?

I know this may sound like a silly question, It's just that they quoted me about £70 for it and on that site blueparts on this thread it's about £90 and it's in dollars??? Just worried I'll get the wrong tool!

stealers can't sell the same tool for less surely?

they won't tell me what the tool for that no. is, they'll only order it for me.

Do blueparts have their own codeing system for these tools?

I made this works on all the engines 10v and 20v on an engine stand or not... so long as you have a flywheel on of course...
