  • ABS switch on an ABY & bias valve

After some nattering at ADI, I'm going to look in to this, as the ABS was a bit of a PITA.

Anyone know what wire I need to interrupt at the ABS ECU/relay to turn it off? I have the speed sensor wire cut on the diff lock but don't want a locked diff all the time... I could remove the pneumatic lines to the diff or the control wire and thus not have to cut any wires, which is quite neat...

I'm going to fit a bias valve to the rear brake circuit. I can leave it fully open for road use and the wind it up for track use with the ABS off.

You need to retro-grade to the earlier ABS system, it is much less intrusive

RJ Scotty has done a sticky on adding a switch to the ABY

My encyclopaedic knowledge of the forum let me down there

Will look at the ABS cancel switch workings and try to sort it out.

I imagine your rear brake upgrade will help a lot with the balance and give you more grip under breaking

I guess you really need an in-car bias adjuster to have any useful chance of getting it set up right on track?

Aye, it's in the title Tilton ones are about 100 plus some flexis, bulkhead connectors and pipe. Luckily there's only a single circuit yo the rear anyway.

As you know, ive just sorted this on my car you need to wire into the yellow/black wire on the blue T10a connector under the dash. 12v pulse to this should turn off the abs,and switch on the dash light. The oem switch uses the blue/black wire in the same connector as the 12v source for the abs and abs switch. Thats for my older system but worth a punt on the later, it may work?

Does the ABS switch illuminate too? Would be nice and OCD to have it working

Yes it does illuminate, you can tap into the illumination circuit and earth in the other switches

Yep it will do if you wire both blue/black wires from the switch.

Another reason to consider the 3B over an ABY

on my 80 tdi i replaced a cv joint recently before the old 1 fell off lol but i replaced it with a non abs joint i had spare (didnt even think of the abs ring) and then realised the abs light on at all times. so simply unscrewed the abs unit cover and pulled the relays out. fixed

Yep but if you have an Mot and the car is fitted with abs, The light must come on for two seconds and go out when you start the car... So make sure this still happens?? I had this problem last week when i had my mot id pulled the dash bulb to stop the constant light mot guy didnt like this. Ended up spending a fair few hours sorting my abs prob.
