  • My solution....RS2 grill clip

A few years ago I bought a RS2 grill along with the grill clips. Lucky me. Well, I am still bothered by the fact that if I loose one I will not be able to simply purchase another from Audi. I also like to help those in need so I have been on the constant lookout for a solution........an easy one too. Here is the best that I have found so far.

On every C4 chassis fuse box there are two orange metal clips that hold the fuse fox cover in place. If you remove the silver metal fuse box trim you can pull off these two clips from the back side. These orange clips can be bent a little resulting in a shape very similar to the original RS2 part. Granted it's not perfect, but until Audi stamps out a few more of these it's the best I can come up with.

I apologize for such a terse explanation, but it's almost impossible to describe how to bend the clip into the right shape. I can tell you that you will definitely need to borrow a genuine clip from a mate though. The pictures should help a little also.

The C4 fuse box, which is located in the door jam.

The metal trim removed and looking from the back side. One clip has already been removed in the picture.

.......and the finished product installed. I drilled a hole, as per the original, to help hold things in place. I think a shorter screw would help too.

I will be spraying mine black to help hide them.

I almost forgot. I don't think these are a spare part from Audi so the junk yard/breaker might be our only source.

          Might this be 4A0 857 117 ?

Don't all rush off and buy them - I am NOT sure... But this clip is common to fusebox area on all 100/A6/S6 from 1991-1997. Calls up QTY of 2 as well so its worth a try surely...

Alternatively - if the clips are bundled with fuse holder - that is 4A1 857 235 - and very cheap by my old information. It is common to LHD and RHD also.

I think you might be right. Only one way to find out though so I've ordered some for stock. They are back order though so expect an answer in 7-10 days.

I've mistakenly thought that most people were using some sort of tinnerman/upholstery clips as mentioned in thie last few pages of this old thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...rill%22&page=6

look here http://www.bresco.com/acatalog/Fasteners.html I'm sure a pair of pliers could adapt nearly any of these items for securing the grill, and price wise they're pennies compared to the originals, I think most pack sizes are £7 for approx 20-50 clips.

sorry Saltinot don't wanna hijack your thread

there's a few other places do them look for "s" type trim clips.

He shoots he scores. They arrived this morning and are indeed the very same clips that Tom located and so the 'Saltinot Grill Mod' was born.

Does the RS2 grill not need 2 different types of clip?

Excellent - I guess Saltinot can advise how he bent these into the right shape for this application... Though I see a thread from monstereddie claiming he was got the VW classic parts people to remanufacture the original clips.

The above are certainly a LOT cheaper than the Remanufactured ones though!

It definitely has a nice ring to it. Perhaps a how to session over beers at Goodwood?

I did have to play with the clip a little to get it to work like the original clip. Maybe I can take a close up pic of one before with the modified clip along side for a comparison?

I think Muenstercheesy is not telling us the full story. I posted a link to a German forum a few months back, albeit im German, with the same info. His claim that he has done all the leg work can not be substantiated.
