  • APR Finland R8 project, the R8 1:1

Just realized, I have been unfaithful to my old forum, and have had this thing going on with other places, so I thought to share.

Didn't dare to put up a real project - thread, as it's such a distant relative to the S2's, I felt it would be a bit of a blasphemy.

But nevertheless, I've been building -along with APR Finland team of course, an R8 for time attack.

To avoid typing same stuff all over, I'll just throw a few links, and You can have a good jump start on the subject.

Don't be so shy Jyrki. It just wiped the floor with everything else on the track.

Well, that being true in the sprint race, i still don't want to make it sound like it was easy.

But yea, having driven 6 kilometers total, we took part in a five lap show start from the back of the grid.

After two laps Sami felt confident enough to start challenging the leading pair, 2jz massive turbo celica and 900hp m3. Others were miles slower.

Celica retired, bimmer span out. Sami won.

but yea, although it sounds like "buy all the expensive **** and rule them all with ease", I can tell You it wasnt. This is still homebrew setup and designed by me. Expensive components, yes, but still not obvious to win them all fresh out of the box.

Jyrki I'm not on Facetube so can't follow your project on there. I did read all of your thread on R8talk. Most impressive.
What did you end up doing about the chassis deflection you were seeing on the Dyno?
Also your manifold material, what that an Inconel alloy or something else?

I made a small brace, You can actually see me welding it at the paddock in this clip.

                  https://youtu.be/9Hqz2ggHRoY

There is a swan neck type bracket in the rear suspension, that caused the chassis leg to coil. Now it's braced and it shoud not be doing that anymore. Need gopro footage to see if it is really fixed.

Manifolds are made of high chromium-nickel fireproof steel, s309.
