  • Quattro help

    Hi.
I have a b4 tdi 80 avant and would like to convert to awd. Witch is the easiest way to do it?
    a) using the quattro system from a b4 sedan or coupé?

    b) using the quattro system from a b5 sedan?

A friend is selling his b5 quattro v6 2.5 tdi and would like to know if it can be done
    Thanks!

You'll need to use B4 Saloon or Avant rear running gear and prop, the B4 Avants have the subframe mounting bolt hole's hidden under the under-seal complete with threads the latter cars just have the holes without threads.

I think it may well be possible to use B5 quattro stuff at the back as well.

Coupe/B3 Saloon is no use to you.

Acidburn converted a FWD 80 to quattro but broke it down before finishing.
mdz is thinking about doing it

The fuel tank is also different in quattro . So basically, you will need a B4 quattro sedan/avant as a doner.

Nitec did a fwd to quattro b4, you will need to read through the thread to find where the quattro swap starts

If you get a B4 donor then AFAIK everything should swap across, need to weld in a captive nut for the rear subframe and weld in the prop support bracket.

You can use parts from a b5, but would still need a b4 fuel tank.

You will need to do something with the brake lines.

I would get a B4 quattro and have them both side by side.

                Another question.
The rear diff, subframe, struts, wishbones.... of an RS2 are the same as on a b4 avant quattro?
                Thanks

                  Change of plans.
I think i´d better try to source an 80 avant quattro for spares to swap all the quattro components to mine. I´m sure it will be plug and play
As for the engine and gearbox, will also try to source a 130 PD engine with 6 gearbox, which is easy to come by.
But that raises another question: does the 6 gearbox adapt to the quattro linkage system???
                  Once again need your help!
                  Thanks.

                    Found a A4 B5 quattro for parts.
I was thinking….using the quattro system and a PD engine (Tdi) what gear box could i use to fit both the quattro system and the engine?

any 01a (5speed) or 01e (6speed) quattro gearbox. you will want a tdi ratio one.

                            Gearbox

I have a gearbox with the code HCG 28014 that has a ratio 37:10
What would happen if the rear differential had a different ratio, other than 37:10?
                            Would it still work?
                            Thanks!
