  • Coupe Roof Skin

Anyone converted a sunroof car to non-sunroof?

Does anyone know of a carbon roof skin being available?

I like the sunroof but it's not getting any younger and so just looking in to the options, as I'll have to get the rust on the leading edge of the roof sorted and some paint lift at the rear sorted at some time in the next few years, so looking in to options...

I may get my roof, A, B & C pillars done gloss black, so maybe you should follow suit with a pearlescent black roof. I'm tempted to do a DIY on the rust and then get it wrapped (again, maybe DIY) to see if I like it or not. Sure, it won't be 100% but then it'll be one way around a big bill!

I will need new front wings at some point too, so it's tempting to get some fibreglass wide arches

being the classy guy i am i have riveted sheet metal over the hole

but to be more precise i want to take a mould using fibre glass from non sunroof coupe and then make a fibre glass and carbon replacement, look at carbon skin tutorials on you tube in just fibre glass as a skin looking at £200, if have equipment to spray that includes paint.

from the link posted by Error404 you can get a roof skin, or a fibre glass sunroof panel (or carbon if like)

i was thinking of just ordering the sunroof panel to save weight.

For once, I am a step ahead... I contacted LWS Design in the UK about this exactly a month ago - http://www.lwsdesign.co.uk/product.p...category_id=50

Their email reply to my request about cost & viability for B3 application - summarising their response they need an OE sunroof panel to work from and £300 to build one. I just realised they didn't clarify whether that was carbon or fiberglass... I have pinged them back and asked about the cost each for a batch of five.... I will update here when they reply.

Whole roof or just the sunroof?

Just the sunroof - which is expensive for sure... the whole roof would be cool but see their prices for A4, Golf and others - gets expensive.

You will see that LWS also make carbon sheet door cards for a number of beemers and other applications... could be an option for our B3/B4 applications if there is enough interest and the price is right.

I am going to do a complete Carbon Roof skin this winter for mine see if I can save but I would not recommend it with out a cage there's not a lot in the roof.

So - quick update - had a few emails exchanged with LWS - for a batch of five identical sunroof delete panels they can offer it for 195 each in Carbon or 125 each in GRP (fiberglass). They need an OE sunroof to work from - mine will be available to send soon.

I am definitely up for one - happy to go GRP unless there is wider interest in carbon. Anybody else ?

Forgot to clarify - those prices are UK Sterling and don't include postage... They aren't registered for VAT yet either.
