  • PS fluid leak again!

Just when I thought I had my PS fluid leak solved after many years of relentless oilyness.. (fettling of the T piece in the return line fixed a persistent leak)

Started the car tonight, got a beep and a red brake warning and the PS pump groaned as I turned the wheel. I only topped it up last time I drove it so this is not good news, it has emptied itself sitting on the drive

I think it's either the hose from the cooler pipe to the reservoir or the reservoir it's self. Does anyone know if the reservoir is still available and how much? Will and ABY one fit the 3B? Anyone have a good spare going? I probably should get a new cap/switch too ..

Hmm, maybe some coming out the top of the reservoir, the rubber seal not located properly, time will tell.

But.. the rack has a leak, there's fluid dripping from the gaiter Doesn't seem long since I changed the rack

You sure its the rack mate, not the pressure line from the pump?
I topped my fluid level up to the max level last week and it then proceeded to piss out all over my engine bay, took ages to clean up
Had you topped yours up recently?

I need to have another look in daylight but I think the fluid is coming from inside the gaiter

I topped it up about 2 weeks ago as it was groaning, only did a few miles, started it again the other day and it was groaning again and the level had dropped right back down. I need to see if I can spot where it's dripping from, the top of the gearbox is quite wet..

Bummer. Was it a "recon" rack you fitted?

Know how you feel.....the periodic red light then fill up, with constant leak patches beneath the engine bay. I ended up cleaning every PS pipe and then doing an inspector clouseau session with paper underneath to pinpoint the dribble and trace it back. Mine ended up being the "cooling" pipe between the reservoir and the pump, which is now NLA. Fortunately another forum member came to the rescue

Sounds like you have the pain in the *rse of the rack area though. I would suggest a thorough clean and trace session

I had a leaky pump last year, got it replaced when I had a service in December and now my German specialist informs me it's leaking again! I also get the red (!) warning light & beep but I just say shut uuuuuup or f*ck oooooooff when it comes on

Can't deal with anything properly right now, until I've bought my house and moved in denial and avoidance will be my coping methods!

No it was a "good" second hand ABY jobbie.

A good clean and paper under the car is the way forward I think.

Is the rack seal replaceable in situ? (I don't know why I'm asking that )

Much easier to diagnose with it all clean
