  • Garage / inspection light recommendation

I bought one of these recently:-

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2310062907...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Mainly to use when I'm working under the car, made a small base plate for it so it will sit on the floor and be adjustable

For the money it's brilliant, only 10W so uses little electricity, runs really cool and throws out loads of really crisp white light. Highly recommended

I've also got it's big brother, 20W version, bolted to the roof of the garage above where the engine bay sits.

Yep, these are the thing. I'm using two of them. I also made a hook so I can hang it on to the bonnet while working around engine.

That is a good lamp but i found a major problem with it.When you work in front of it you create shadow and it is useless.
Bought one and found it is hard to work with.If you put it behind you create shadow. If you put it in front it blinds you.Only way is to aim it to the area you work but it is not as mobile and versatile as the product i attach a pic.
Sliding,2 magnets one bottom one behind.2 light sources, one big on side and one smaller on top.Strong lamp, resistant to solvents, oil, petrol etc.
Had 2 of them 3 years i think.Only one gave up the ghost. It was forgot magnet attached to a subframe and the lift crashed it.I bought one with smd? light now.Even better compared to led one.
The best lamp design. There are hundred's lamps this type but this is the model you need.I tried lots of them.I found the producer. It is not berner as you see in pic. Will look and share info if someone is interested. Here almost all car parts suppliers sell them, you will find it for sure.
I am not selling lamps,i just love how versatile and resistant it is
And it has charger also for the lighter in your car

            Found them:http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/uk/p...+Lamps/RIL4000
Maybe you will find another "brand" the same design. But not something else,go for this shape.Trust me.
The one with led is something about 30 eur and the one with smd? 50 eur. Both of them have same powerfull magnets.

            Regards,

I use one like that too Andy. I like the idea of the base plate. Will make one of those instead of balancing it on hammers and things lol.

I've had the Ring RIL4000 for a year now and it's faultless. I much prefer the chip on board type LED's to the multiple options. Much brighter light and low power.

This is the same lamp as the Ring unit I have, just badged differently. They blind you for a few minutes if you look straight at them

Just had a look, the ones i have are scangrip but will get a ring next time, a bit cheaper.
Also have a chip 12volt spotlamp above the garage door, brill. Light chip is the way to go
