  • Custrom intercooler crossmember

MartinJS made a lovely pair of Calliper rackets to convert my Porsche callipers onto the S2 hub carriers to suit 314mm disks

He was on his way to friends in Chester on Saturday and called in so that I could make him a Custom cross member to suit his new Intercooler. The intercooler was bought from E-bay and was probably from a Nissan Skyline or similar.

The cross member was constructed from 25mm thick walled tubing and 4mm thick steel plate.

The whole project took about 6 hours. Martin did not have the correct tubing and had to remove it so that he could continue his journey. Martin had a V6 crossmember from which we robbed some rubber mounting brackets that by chance fitted the intercooler.

I hope these quick snaps will help someone else to make a cross member to suit their car.

A big thanks to david, excellent job, i'm well pleased.
its a pity i couldnt connect it up. i didnt want to have to hack the bumper about too much, wanted to keep stealth mode.
had to do a little trimming on the back of the bumper (where the ic outlets are) but is out of sight so doesnt matter other than that its a perfect fit.
just got a few more pipes to sort out then it can be fitted.

just got back a couple of hours ago, didnt relish the thought of the M6 again so went for a blast through wales.

got into a tussle with a new shape M3...couldnt get past me..ha
gave my new brakes a good test, had the abs cutting in at 80 a few times

Martin, I hope that you didn't use the sheep joke so close to Wales last night!

              Glad to be of service

Hope it goes all right, now you need one of the sexy MTM inlet manifolds as posted by Nick Psaltakis

Im aiming for that type of inlet manifold in the long run, but in the mean time i'll have to use some tubing and a few bits of silicon hose.

ps, does anyone have any hose (about 63mm dia) 90 deg bends etc.
it will cost a packet to get these from sfs or deamon tweeks
                i have some straight tubing.

                thanks

                  That is insane but coool

How's the RS2 bumper coming along? Is it going to have a removable number plate that reveals a big hole for track days?

How about using stainlees tubing for the bends and just use short sections of silicon to join it up - It might be cheaper? Remember to weld a ring on the ends of the tubing though.

Who did you ge the IC from?

                    Hi Doug,

Martin got it fom E-bay for about £120 I think

I was thinking about tubing such as stainless myself earlier, The ring you mentioned on the tubing would not easy to reproduce. There is a Swedish company called ABA ( not the band!) who do some tasty hose clamps for silicone hoses, may be worth a look.

They are sold by www.Automec.co.uk ( I seem to have problems with the website!)

Thats what i was thinking, using stainless pipe, but didnt know where to get the ends flared.
the ic was £140, there was a few others on e-bay at the same time going for well over £300 guess i was lucky to get it that cheap,
havent really got much done to the bumper yet, still needs repairing
