  • Electrical issues after paint job.

I just reassembled the S2 after the paint job and it has several electrical faults.

All switches and illumination works, but not all the functions.

    Things that is not functioning:
    Seat heaters
    Rear fog light
    Rear "position light"
    Electric front light height adjuster
Stereo is flickering or completely black
My amp is turning itself on and off
Electrical AC unit (new style) not working = no fan or heat adjustment, buttons is illuminated though
the "Brems licht" sign is on constantly, even though the brake lights is functioning

There is probably stuff that I don't remember as well, where the h*ll do i start?
Is there a common earth point inside the car?

Any help appreciated as I'm no electrician, plus the police had some remarks on my rear lights the other night

    Thanks guys in advance!

Sounds like earthing to me, the paint has to be removed from the earth points, start with the battery and then ecu

It did not get painted inside the car, but I will look at the battery anyways.

Is there an earth point at the ECU ?

      EDIT:
Some additional info, the car has been standing still since sometime in June.

Was the car/paint dried in an oven ?

No it was not, it was dried at about 20-25 deg celsius, inside a building.

Update, the seat heaters is indeed working, my bad. Rear turn signals, rear window heater, and the plate lighting is working too, weird as im having problems with rear position lights and rear fog lights. Inconsistent rear lighting problems to say the least, as i guess those components share the same loom and feed. So is there a earth point near the ecu that i could give some closer inspection?

The main internal earth point is on the side body, above the inner relay panel (under the steering wheel) on a RHD car but god knows on those strange LHD cars that you lot drive )

              Cheers n

Oh, so above the relay panel but below the instrument cluster? Just trying to make out where to reach it from the easiest

Yes, _we_ the LHD owners is the rare breed eh? :mischeif:

Anyways, found my fault with the parking/position lights at the back, after noticing the fronts were dead two we had a look at the fuses once more and of course they were blown, the must have gone when I was trying to make contact at the rear through all the corrosion and crud

But, the rest of the faults remain, will have a look at battery and that earth point tomorrow me thinks.
