Why was it that when I read the opening article phrase "Audi was wounded so deeply by those TV journalist clowns" that I immediately thought to myself "What did Clarkson say about Audi back then?" (when I should have thought "60 minutes")? I guess "clowns" and Clarkson are synonymous to me forever now.

Nope. The S2s came with 2 different wheels. The early S2s, including 1990-92 coupes, and the early 93 coupes and 93 S2 avants, got a five spoke 7J x 16H2 ET37 wheel made by Ronal, code C4G. The later cars got the C5T 16" Avus like the UrS6s (and some UrS4s). The first photo shows the S2 five spoke C4G wheel, the second the rare S2 sedan sporting the C5T Avus wheels.
