Bulbs for 1996 S6 Dash??

C4 Instrument Cluster Bulb Replacement

Can't help you with where to buy that is close to you.

What you want is to upgrade the orange base 1.1W bulbs to light green base 2.0W bulbs. 10 or 11 of these: OSRAM, Audi PN 893919040A (the one on the left below)

Here is a good DIY that will work for you.

Here is something else by turboS4audi:

"I used 11 2W bulbs in my instrument cluster. They are indicated in Red in the pictures below. All the other bulbs ar 1.2W and are indicated in Green.





Make sure they are seated a complete quarter turn or you will be in there again very quickly.

The bulbs have locking tabs that line up with the slots in the hex head of the bulb:



The bulbs have two electrical contacts that are at 90 degrees to the locking tabs (and the slot in the bulb hex head). The electrical contacts go through those vertical slots.



The point of this is, you load the bulb into the CC Head bulb slots with the slot in the bulb hex head in the horizontal (meaning the electrical contacts are vertical) and then you turn the bulbs 90 degrees to the right (clockwise) until the slot is vertical and the locking tabs snap into the slots that the bulb electrical contacts went through. Clever design, I thought.

As I've noted, the upgrade is to replace the key 1.1 orange base bulbs with 2.0W light green base bulbs. 10 or 11 needed.

Actually Dave it was a compliment as even Craig acknowledges in a post a few months back that the designers of the old audi cars didn't go to university for nothing!

Nope just the 10 or 11 indicated in those DIYs. Some of the bulbs are lower wattage and would be annoyingly bright if they were changed to 2.0W bulbs.

Too funny. I wasn't poking back at you Mark, I was poking *through* you to GeneAndBolly for his previous comments about me as a teacher/prof. This was flavoured by the other post that I had just seen regarding the instrument cluster photos I posted in the dimmer thread and your comment to Craig regarding Audi engineers having gone to University. I am quite confident in guessing 100% of them went to University, some with Masters and PhDs too no doubt.

Yes i agree with you plus also in the mix it might in no small measure be the fact they are mostly German and we all know they are genius engineers most of the time. Urm....Man on the moon, inter ballistic missiles the list is endless almost.
