Mine are http://www.amazon.com/FK-Bearings-FK.../dp/B00BUMATKS but they are an early version so could be different.

Ok, if anybody needs to rebuild their promounts the recipe is as follows,

-New topmounts from Audi. Others may work, but i found these last the longest, and the mount savers are guaranteed to fit.
-New spherical bearings, part number listed above.

        1) Press out the aluminium sleeve from the old bearing, a few sockets in a vice will do the job. Then prize out the mount saver rings from the old bushings.
        2) Press out the stock bearing from the new Audi mount, easily knocked out with a socket and hammer.
        3) Enlarge the hole in the new mount to 28-29mm in diameter with a countersunk edge. A Christmas tree bit is ideal for this task.
        4) Press the spherical bearing into the new top mount, its a tight fit so a few correctly sized sockets and a vice will be required.
        5) Bond the new bearing into the mount, you could probably get away without doing this but i found isopon works great. I used it on the last rebuild and the bearing is still set like concrete 3 years later.
        6) Push the spacer sleeve into the new bearing, then fit the mount saver rings and your done.

Since the promounts are no longer available i have attached the measurements of the spacer in case anybody has access to a lathe...

          Thanks for that
Did you rebuild them because they started knocking?

Also if anyone is going to build their own I think there may have some differences depending on what dampers are used (stock, bilstein, koni). I'm not sure what part/s would be different, maybe just the spacer dimensions.

The first time i rebuilt them i just replaced the rubber mount as it had collapsed and felt soft. This time i found the bearing had started to corrode and seize up, hence the shiny new ones. Fitment should be the same for any shock absorber, excluding coil overs or other custom setups.

              Hi mcandmar

I like the mod you posted.

I was looking to do the very same thing to my shock mountings.

Can you advise on the following.

Are you still using this mod and how is the replacement bearing doing?

Also the standard rubbers on the mountings about how long are they lasting, have you had any problems?

The picture/drawing of the sleeve does not show the larger lip diameter can you recall what it was.

Good point, i forgot about that dimension. I don't think it is that critical as long as the lip is wide enough to support the nut.

Can you show how it looks once assembled together before it goes back on the car?

Here is the original pro mount with the shiny black goop holding it together. ..which eventually fell out and let the bearing rattle around.

vs the crusty one which was the first rebuild using the same bearing, but at the end of its useful life. I can see a 2012 date code on the rubber mount. Note the bearing is still stuck good and solid in there with the isopon.

The pics further up the thread were from the second rebuild with a new mount and bearing, and mount savers II fitted instead of the original savers. Only original bit is the center alloy sleeve.

So to make a new setup like this the only non off the shelf part is the metal sleeve you have shown the dimensions for?

The material I was planning to use to support/secure the bearing was BELZONA 1111NF2 super metal.

•High strength structural adhesive for metal bonding
•Creation of irregular load bearing shims and reforming of bearing housings

Yup, a trivial job if you have access to a lathe.
