Hello.

I am struggling to find the following parts for my 1995 Audi 80 Avant RS2:

2x Front ABS wheel speed sensor (893927803A)
2x Rear ABS wheel speed sensor (8A0927807C)
1x Idle Stabilisation Valve (034133455A)

I don't think the garage looking after my Audi RS2 has VCDS / VAGCOM.

Problem: ABS activating when coming to a slow stop (boing noise from brake pedal).
They think that one of the fitted wheel speed sensors is faulty but don't know which one.
I am told that it will be a case of removing one; fitting a replacement; see if that is the solution; if not, remove second one; fit a replacement, etc. but cannot reuse existing sensors once removed.
So, I may need four new ABS wheel speed sensors.

Problem: hunting idle when engine is warm (e.g. when stopped at traffic lights during a long drive).
They think it may be the ISV (there are no boost leaks from a smoke test).

Any pointers to where I can find these parts gratefully received.

At this point I wish I had purchased VCDS / VAGCOM years ago.
It might have saved me ££££ over the years in time spent diagnosing the cause of problems / purchasing parts that may not be required...

Aoplogies if this is a boring subject for you lot, but searching the forum has not provided a definitive for me.
I have B4 v6 Quattro Avant with factory sport suspension (same as S2 but four stud and 2pot calipers). I have S2 H&R lowering Springs and before that the original s2 springs. I am tired of the damn top mounts malarkey. I can't find the sachs 802 453 top mounts that would work with the mount savers. ...and to be honest I still don't get how that works, but happy its a well trodden path, but can't find the mounts...

Has anyone found a solution to get the standard Febi's to last more than 5 minutes?
Or an alternative that works outside of solid top mounts?
There must be a polybush equivalent that works somewhere? even of a different vehicle that needs turning down a bit or I don't know.
Anyone, been there, done that, got the t-shirt and can save me 100hours messing around?

1988 Type 85 quattro – thermostat failure, broken in two places. Any ideas?

I’ve had a very odd failure that I’ve never encountered before, and I’m hoping someone might have an explanation.

We have an ’88 Type 85 MB quattro in for extensive work. One of the major problem areas was the cooling system, where virtually everything was worn out and the system was full of rusty sludge.

I removed both radiators and had two new ones made. I also replaced the water pump (Febi), the block-to-water-pump stub pipe (new genuine), and the water transfer pipe (new genuine from Tradition). All the sensors were replaced, and I restored both water housings and the rear angle pipe. I also checked and ultrasonically cleaned the heater valve.

I flushed the system using a compressed-air/water gun. The heater matrix was particularly stubborn to unblock, but I persisted until the water ran clear. The amount of rust staining left across the car park was something I’d never seen before!

I then reassembled everything, leaving the radiator circuit bypassed, with no thermostat or expansion tank fitted. I filled the engine and cooling system with a strong mixture of Bilt Hamber Deox-C and distilled water, then brought it up to temperature a couple of times a day for two weeks.

After that, I flushed everything again using the air/water gun and blew the system clear.

I fitted the new radiators and ran the VW genuine 052 525 A2 cleaning solution (nearly £200 for the kit) with distilled water for 20 minutes, with the cooling fan operating. I then flushed the system again, and an unbelievable amount of rust came out once more.

Next, I sealed the system and filled it with the neutralising chemical, ran it up to temperature again, then drained it and flushed it with air/water before blowing it through with air alone.

I vacuum-filled the system with distilled water, ran it up to temperature, drained it again and blew it clear once more.

Finally, I fitted a genuine Wahler 069 121 113 thermostat from TPS and vacuum-filled the system with a 40% G12 Evo and 60% Quantum mixing water mixture. I brought it up to temperature, and everything appeared perfect.

I drove the car for a few days, then noticed steam on the rear of the windscreen. The blower fan was also making a terrible noise, so I replaced it and checked the heater matrix from above. Everything looked fine.

A couple of days later, I went to retrieve the wheel-alignment paperwork from the passenger footwell and found it wet, with sticky red coolant on it.

I dropped the driver’s glovebox and could see coolant dripping from underneath the heater box. As the matrix is the same as the Golf Mk1 unit, I had a Nissens replacement in stock. I removed the pedal box (again!) and replaced the matrix.

I then ran the car up to temperature, drove it home on two consecutive evenings and gave it a good run. The heater output was excellent, and the engine reached operating temperature within a few miles and stayed there.

The customer subsequently collected the car to go on the Quattro tour. About an hour later, he called to say that the temperature was dropping and the heater was blowing cold.

I wasn’t prepared to let him continue driving it in that condition, so he returned, collected his GT instead, and went on the tour without his not a quattro, missing a propshaft and rear differential. EXTREMLY embarrassing for me.

I ordered another thermostat and O-ring and then spent the next three days worrying about what had gone wrong.

Yesterday, I removed the thermostat and, to my horror and disbelief, found that it had broken in two places and was stuck fully open.

I simply cannot work out why this has happened. The thermostat was a genuine VW from TPS Wahler part, and the system had been thoroughly cleaned and flushed before it was fitted.

I’ve fitted another thermostat and am testing the car again, but I’d really appreciate some input from anyone who has encountered anything similar.

I checked the thermostat housing by feel as best I could (I should have used my borescope) and couldn’t detect anything obvious. The stub pipe is below the machined surface and appeared clear, and the replacement thermostat sits in position without any apparent obstruction. As some will know, this area is very tight without a lot of dismantling.

Has anyone seen a thermostat physically break like this? Could something in the housing or stub pipe be putting mechanical stress on it, or is there another possible explanation?

At this point, I’m struggling to understand what could have caused it, particularly after all the work that went into cleaning and rebuilding the cooling system.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've always had a soft spot for fast Audis, and I did briefly own an RS2 back in Sweden in the early 2000's when they were still affordable.

A couple of months ago, the stars aligned, and I once more got myself an RS2, this one being an import from Brunei with a very low 54k kms on the clock.
It does require some TLC, I'll probably throw up a build thread at a later stage

Hi guys,

I am hoping to fit my heated windscreen very soon but I'm unsure on the best way to route the wires.

I can either take the wires on the inside of the screen straight under the dash but that would mean sealing the screen on top of the wires so that if it ever had to be removed then the wire would definitely be destroyed on removal or alternatively take the wires on the outside and under the plastic scuttle cover and in through the grommets on the bulks-head.

Any advice or how to's would be appreciated especially if you have one fitted already

Thanks,
I`m in the process of building my stock 2.2t engine for a Audi Coupe and decided to make some CAD files for most common gaskets that i already ordered for the build. Guess they could be handy if someone would like to cut them thirselves or when they will be NLA. I understand that these gaskets are just few of them but if you need any to CAD, please snd me a pic and i`ll try to make it. I`m not that a professional in CAD and the gaskets are 99% accurate but some gaskets like the oil pump are pretty complex to draw, but i have scanned it, so you can print it and make a stencil of it for your use. The 3D model of the flange is in STL as the CAD program i`m using has some issues with converting to AutoCAD or Fusion

I had a small accident and besides the bumper and small bits that i already solved, my driver side headlight got hit and as i already knew, iiiiiiit'sss a very difficult to find part here in Portugal.

I had to consider finding options in Ovoko, Ebay, specific audi tradition websites (that type of platforms), but the ones that i found always have some type of problem along with it's price tags that makes me reconsider and be undecisive on what i should do... (not even going to talk about new ones, complete pairs whatever, guys asking for 2000 € - 3000 € - the whole car is not much more than that as you know.)

In the end i think i found a solution in Kleinanzeigen (Germany) and apparently the seller is rxl on this forum - > https://www.s2forum.com/member/13084-rxl/about

I am being asked to pay through PayPal Friends and Family (that way i don't have any insurance or safety that the product arrives to me... it's a normal "bank transfer" where i have to believe in the person.) but he told me i should come here to the forum and ask you guys about him, if anyone has had any issues with him regarding buying or selling?

If some of you already made business with him like this please tell me, i would be thankful for your feedback.

Other than that, (another question) this deal is speccifically a UK version of the headlight and i know i cannot drive that legally in EU roads but i have been told and by what i've been able to search, i can use my damaged headlight main ellipsoidal (projector) lens (that is working fine) and swap it for the UK version in rxl example and that would be fine. Do you guys think it's safe for me to do this?

Thank you all in advance for your time!

Hi, i have URS4 with swapped Emu Black - did it myself and wiring stayed thanks to the emu black adapter to original car socket.

Car was running great, but i have decided to do timing belt due to failing water pump. With that i purchased the adjustable cam wheel, coolant pump from RS2 (26t) and 150t timing belt. I put it together and it did not start. It seemed like it wanted but did not. In Emu everything was in SYNC while cranking. ECU claims no issues whatsoever.

Later i realized that i did not check the notch for the cam shaft sensor and i was right about that. I adjusted the notch approximately to the previous wheel ( i had ti cuz there is slso a notch in the intake camshaft itself, and it seemed that i wants ti start even more but u was not successful.

Anybody sny tips on what to check? Iam posting the wheel i bought and some screens from Ecumaster

Before i touched the car, it was running great ofc.
the timing belt should be correct, although the 0 degree mark on the flywheel is not visible, but its on the same mark it was before i did timing belt (somebody did there a custom mark). Spark is there, fuel is there.

I tried everything..
