Also got this locking tool from Alex. The plan is now to get the car fully stripped down and serviced. So that’s the timing belt, idler, water pump, thermostat, camshaft seal, crank pulley seal, both V belts, air filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, oil, oil filter, coolant, brake fluid and that’s about it. Just remembered, there’s two new bumper jets to modify and fit as well which I can do as the front bumper will be off.

So you will be busy then.
Change the two little coolant pipes while you are there. The thin one that runs to the turbo and the thicker one that goes from the thermo housing.

And so it begins or should I say that was the plan. Changing the drop links on my wife’s polo took a lot longer than I expected due to the Allen bolts rounding. I think it’s about time I used an air gun or bought an electric gun as they would have been off in no time.

Also a word of warning, the Ross Tech lead I bought earlier turned out to be a fake. Because the seller doesn’t accept returns I’m going through PayPal to get this sorted. The conclusion though is that I’ll buy new through Gendan. This way I can get all the software updates and free support for life.

Now the front end is off there’s a few issues, but nothing major. Jubilee clip around the turbo is not tight. A perished vacuum pipe to the blow off valve. The oil cooler is full of rubbish. V belt delaminating. Last of all the OEM clip on the power steering pipe is leaking. No snapped bolts so far which is a first.
