my bigger (of 2) tat isn't quite as big as that mate but i'd agree that once he starts filling it will start to numb. I found that having a chick there you're trying to impress keeps you distracted cos you're busy trying to look nonchalant about some ****** dragging a needle down your skin.

you might want to give an ibuprofen a bash. painkiller and anti-inflamatory in one. check with your tatooist in case the anti-inflamatory might affect the tattoo though. or voltarol is a good painkiller. not sure if you can get it over the counter though. Of course i'd normally prescribe a couple of guinness but most tattooists won't come near you if they smell alcohol. Wish the guy had been so particular when I came in when I was 18 and got the first one, ****ed as a loon. It's supposed to be a Maori friendship symbol but looks more like a pound sign. plus the yellow faded to nothing and the red went pink. It will need to be fixed at some point. even if it's just a big black dot. Ah the things you do when you're young and have been drinking. the second was much the same but a bigger, tribal affair done when half ****ed by an **** of a tattooist. maybe I should just get myself tattooed black and cover the lot?

As for tatts, got one on my arm and it hurt like hell, only a relatively small one but its high up and and the vibrations i could feel in my shoulder joint

But then, im also a woose as well

Would recomend Nurofen plus for pain relief, ibuprofen and codeine in one, would probably help taken about 30 mins before ya start, but again would check with the tattooist.

my first tattoo. (i'm known for not doing things in halfs! its all or nothing! we are only on this planet once so make the most of it!)

6.30-7 hrs. it was bloody sore in places. in the middle where it crosses my spine was dam sore, but i broke my back in that same place 2 years ago! the tattoo was childs play compaired to that!

Agree with all the guys here, The filling in is the least painful bit. Have to admit though I didn't find that they hurt that much just like someone pressing their finger nail into your arm and dragging it over it with alot of pressure. The only bit thta got me was going over the spine betweent he shoulder blades and the point where your collar bone meets back up to the shoulders in thet little pointy bit.

I would like one, got an idea what I want but apparantly according to the hospital I should not as i've had piercings and because "apparantly" i've low blood pressure I'd collapse or something. Really would like one but at present its summoning up to go down there and have it done. Really annoying as I would like one. Maybe one day lol
