Dest, seems like we share the same outlook on teh S2 vs. S4 arguement

Fatty, my car has had a complete re-bush and restoration on teh suspension, everything has been changed and it feels as tight as a new'un

It was hibrid K04's (I think, definitly not K03's!), pretty much everything was upgraded, an absolute monster

    I went from an S2 to a B5 S4...... then back to another S2.
    Nuff said!

But seriously, the S4 is an awesome car, just not as much "fun" as an S2 though, even Aiden's ~500bhp felt really refined and smooth, its just not as raw (still VERY bloody fast though!)

I agree, bushes are a big factor for our cars as they are of that age where they need replacing. Bambridge is making some polybush for the avant or there is the 034 option.

The RS2 doesn't feel like a Coupe btw it's handles more like the S4, the Coupe's rear end really is skittish in comparison to the Avant / RS2
Stangely true until you renew the rear subframe bushes with superflex ones and it seems to calm down. IME anyway.

I am keen to do my front ones now...

Just picking up on this one now... certainly looks like Charlie's old machine. Someone added that hot air intake after I last the car.
Maybe its my screen or bad light in the photo - but she has had paint on the front left wing.

I've always said that the S4 rides and handles better than an S2, it's more that it does it too well so you have to push really hard to get the buzz.

The S4 is a perfect car with the VX as a track weapon but if you start ploughing more and more £££ into the S4 to try and give it character and then decide that it's no better then you'll end at a bit of a dead end.

Worth driving an S2 Avant to see if the older car feel gives the satisfaction that I get from my Coupe. Before I drove the S4 I would have swapped mine for it, after I drove it there was no contest, S2 suited my taste much more, then again, I am stuck in about 1994 when it comes to cars and everyone's idea of fun is different...

Jamo, if you REALLY want to scare yourself then may I recommend a Sierra Cosworth with standard sized Kumhos on the rear and a wet road with manhole covers :mischeif:

True it's money you'll never see back, the downside with the RS2 is it's older, feels older and parts are getting sparse however unlike the S4 it puts the fear of god into when it comes on boost and with an MRC remap it'll be an absolute flying machine and it's far easier to work on than the S4 who's running costs scare the black out of me.

It's really down to what you want and what your prefer, the cruise feel of the S4 or the retro come boost bang of the RS2

My S4 does handle really nicely actually (was wondering when Andy might give in and admit it ), after some 'Ring testing a few years back with Andy and careful choice of dampers (Koni) / springs (Bilstein). I'm running a thicker H&R RARB and the standard FARB. Might even consider going to a standard A4 FARB to see what effect it has on turn in and front end grip through the twisties.

Although it's big, heavy, comfortable and essentially a cruiser, it doesn't half hold it's own on track, even at 'just' 330bhp....I was at the 'Ring a few weeks ago and it performed really well against much more modern machinery Just needs some Recaro Pole Positions to enhance the driving experience. I really like the S2 / RS2 setup though and can really see the point, very interesting to hear the similarities between B4 Avant and B5 handling

Thanks for the advice on tuning Jamo. It's just over £5k to get my S4 on K04s with new injectors, fuel pump, RS4 clutch and MRC remap, as I have done almost everything else you can do on the stock turbos, including an FMIC. So, a fair bit of investment that'll I'll never see back if I decide to sell the car. Very tempting though, as it's a great car all round really....

PS. sorry this has now turned into an S4 vs. S2 thread, I'll go and hide LOL!!

He had hybrid turbo's IIRC RS4 / RS6 one but he had changed the rods so he could run more torque, he's now sold it to a member on audisrs

The better handling is countered by the extra weight in the Avant is the only downside
